That's "Alien".....
For those who haven't seen it yet. Watch it blind. You'll love it. It is definitely one of the scariest movies out there, especially considering it's age and the practical effects they used.

I didn't think it was the most terrifying movie ever but just the right amount of terror lol. Personally my favorite horror movie of all time.
Yes there will be.

[QUOTE=Jaws1975;148385800]I should probably clarify other than Halloween his movies don't make a lot of money[/QUOTE

Escape From New York and The Fog both did quite well theatrically. On disc, come on. How many editions have we had of Big Trouble in Little China, The Thing, Halloween, EFNY, The Fog, etc? You think they keep re-releasing his movies because they're losing money on them?

I do think it's very strange that They Live and Prince of Darkness both got 4K releases before The Thing. That said, those were both Shout Factory botique label releases, while this is a studio release. I hope the delay indicates that they took their time to get a great transfer.

That's not entirely accurate. Nowadays it's more common, so going forward it will hopefully be the case that you can rely on 4K discs coming with 4K codes. But there are plenty of examples of 4K discs that came with HD codes: the initial 4K release of Star Trek, The Great Gatsby, the initial 4K release of King Kong, just to name a few. To be safe it is always best to reference www.4ksheet.com. [com.] Though that source can only be counted on for accuracy after a film's release.

"The Greatest Showman" is another example. All of the digital codes from the 4K discs redeem as HD only.

I have this on BR... used to have it on Laserdisc. It still holds up except for the Apple computer chess game. The physical effects are gross and awesome.

I'm not going to jump on a 4k upgrade of a 40 year old movie though. The BR is good enough for me (honestly the laserdisc was probably good enough before HD became a thing).

How does this compare to the shout factory release?
The ShoutFactory release has tons of extras with a 2k scan. I haven't seen it myself, but generally the jump to 4K is not that huge from a 2k scan. The Thing is such a dark movie though it might benefit considerably with the increase in contrast. Ultimately I think it comes down to whether or not you want the best picture possible or the most extras. If you can afford it and love the movie, why not get both?

Is this using the 4K transfer from Arrow Films? Or is it an all new 4K scan?

Big fan of this film. Probably my favorite film. I've bought it several times in different formats. Most recently got a sealed laserdisc version that I don't plan on ever opening. Lol. Anyway, the UHD version is $9 on Vudu, although I'm not sure which "version" it is. Anyone know?

At least you are not cherry picking his movies. Wasn't it Suicide Squad that made half a billion dollars but they considered it a bomb the marketing budget doubled the production budget of $175 million? If not that movie something else like BvS or Justice League.
