Can't recommend this enough!! This thing is a dream for anyone looking to build a home arcade. Easy to assemble (<1 hour from parts to completion), quality components, full size joysticks and buttons with compatibility for almost any arcade game (Sam's clubs version includes pinball buttons!), great looking monitor and loud/clear speakers, easy to access I/O options (HDMI in, and 2 USB-A ports right on the front panel), tons of customizability (saUCE!!). As a video game collector, this has been the best $500 I've spent to get my retro fix on. There really isn't a better value (other than to DIY build).
I snagged one earlier this year for this price on recommendations from fellow SDers, and it's been awesome. I have three young kids (6 and under), and they love both playing with me on it or on their own. Out of the box, the system feels fairly sturdy and looks great. The builtin games are an odd mix at times with ports from various platforms (arcade, Genesis, etc.) and a surprising number of big licenses (several Disney games, Tetris, etc.). Where it really shines though is the ease in which you can add games (search "Legends saUCE" on Reddit or YouTube) to it with just a USB drive or the ability to plug a PC in to the HDMI and use a USB OTG cable to use the arcade controls with the PC.

Some items to note are that the default warranty sucks (so I'd recommend using a credit card which extends it) and AtGames support isn't great. I personally haven't had issues, but it's something to be aware of. The height is pretty good, but if you're somewhat tall (I'm 6' and it effects me), you will probably want stools or a riser (I got some sick Star Wars ones from Home Depot, A1Up also has cool ones). Although it supports some light guns, there's a huge shortage due to the ongoing chip shortage and no sign of them coming soon. Finally note the built in chip can only play through the mid 90s type games/emulators and you'd need an external PC for anything more modern (particularly anything 3D).

Overall I would definitely recommend it for anyone who still has nostalgia for classic gaming/arcades. I had been planning on building one at some point, but with the crazy price of wood, that plan had been put on hiatus. This has now totally filled that desire and probably for a lot cheaper than DIY.
Outstanding price. Easily worth $500.

Solid price. This was $460 at Walmart earlier in the year, so if you have patience it might come back down and no membership needed.

Friendly advice, get the Sam's extended warranty. It's like $40 and gives you three years protection iirc. The manufacturer only gives like 90 days. Granted I've had mine going on a year and no issues yet but good peace of mind.

I checked the game list and it doesn't have Galaga 1 & 3. Sad that I have to pass, my only personal requirement.

Definitely good value when you add in the Sauce (your own games). But I still prefer Arcade 1 up just bc of the size. I don't want to deal with a full size cabinet. A1U cabs are easy to move around. Modding definitely takes a little more research but still pretty easy.

Be incredibly weary of this product. The ctr boards in MANY of these are going and have gone bad including in mine. This renders the machine completely unplayable. Atgames has not acknowledged the issue even though it is becoming a big issue (check Reddit and fb groups) they only offer to invoice you 20 dollars for a new board that is currently out of stock and with no word on when will come back in stock. If I could go back I would pass.
I'm having this same problem. They don't want to fix it 2 months after purchase. I need to pay $40 and they don't even have the board in stock. How long will the next board last?

It's only 1 month. They will not do anything to help you after 1 month either. I'm going to hopefully get my credit card to help repair my unit.

6'2-6'3" here which riser would you recommend?
That's tough. I'm 6 foot and got the 3 inch. If I do the "arcade stance" where you stand with your legs slightly apart then it feels perfect standing. If I stand straight up I think I would have have gone with the 5 inch. However, the reason I went with the 3 inch is because I spend a good majority of my arcade playing on stools, and the height of the controllers with the 5 inch riser while sitting felt very unnatural, much too high. So, I got the 3 inch which is perfect for normal bar stool height and still feels better than stock height when standing.

If you're going to be doing all of your playing primarily standing, then I'd do the 5 inch, if you think you'll be sitting for a chunk of it, I'd do 3 inch. Also, My wife is 5'6 and likes to play and the 5 inch would have made it unnaturally tall for her. Gotta think about your guests that might be playing it too... if you're the tallest of all your friends but plan on playing this with them a lot, might be better to split the difference and just get the 3 inch

That is a lot of work compared to hacking one of these which just requires USB flash drives to hack it. Plus A1ups have a tiny 17" screen, this has a 24" inch.
A1Up cabs require actual hacking...making it do things it isn't supposed to do and voiding warranty in the process.

Getting the ALU to run other games is actually a supported feature...no hacking required since it uses officially supported APIs. Just need to track down the games you want and learn how to get them on a USB drive.

How robust is this thing? Thinking of putting it in a vacation rental but worried it would get destroyed compared to a commercial machine, but it's a lot cheaper.

Either, but the website suggests based on height. I'd do 3" personally so it's comfy for shorter guests.

Do NOT get this for a vacation rental. It's cool but people will play with syrup on fingers or sand on their hands and it'll be broke in a month. It's a glorified control deck, and it should be treated like a $500 controller for your console. Don't let uninvested people on it.
