Basically this is a drill, driver, plus one more free tool of choice for $200.

FYI, the two batteries are only 1.3ah, and the list of free tools is somewhat limited.

Also note the drill and driver, although brushless, are not the top-tier brushless models.

Wait 1.3Ah? I thought they only went down to 1.5Ah? Is this part of "shrink-flation" that happens with things like grocery items where they keep prices the same but reduce the size by a small amount so consumer won't notice? Manufacturers just did that with cereal.

I don't think so, they had the 1.3Ah batteries back in 2019 as well when I was looking for brushless DeWalt. I think they just have them on the cheaper bundles.

Okay. Was confused because I recently purchased the DCS356C1 model kit from HD and one of their product photos said the battery in the kit is a 1.3Ah but that's wrong. Everything else says 1.5Ah in title and description and the DeWalt box itself says 1.5Ah on it so I thought 1.3Ah is a misprint or something new they just started doing when I saw this post say 1.3Ah.

I've never used the 20v max from Dewalt, but I own their XR drill/impact driver kit (XR is their name for their higher end stuff). I drive a lot of screws every day at work, and that impact driver is a BEAST. For an added bonus, put a 5AH battery on it and it drives 2.5" #10 screws so fast I have to be careful to let off the trigger quickly before the screws bury themselves in the plywood.

I'm guessing the 20v max version is comparable to the M18 non-fuel or the Makita 20v compact I use occasionally. They take much longer to drive screws and are much more annoying because I'm listening to the impacts for that much longer. I'm sure the 20v max will get just about any job done, but it's nice to have that power. The XR also has 3 impact settings which are great for times when you might be worried about stripping screws. The max doesn't have that option.

Oh good catch - I didn't notice that these weren't the XR models, since the free gifts are XR models (for most of them).

So really this is only even a deal because of the extra tool. You can get the XR versions of this set, including larger 2 Ah batteries, for about this price. Or you can get just this set without the add on tool for <$150. Therefor you're paying $50-60 for an oscillating tool that's normally ~$100 (as an example).

Not the top end, but certainly not the bottom and with say, the XR oscillating tool, will be just fine for most... there are still plenty of the older brushed models being used on job sites.

A brushless, clutched drill/hammer drill, impact, oscillating, charger, two small batteries and a case for $200 delivered, minus any other discounts is a pretty good deal.

The 996 on up are beasts for a drill/hammer drill and the 887 on up impacts are nice tools for every day usage.... but there are still plenty of brushed 885 impacts used on job sites every day. There is such a thing as too much power for a lot of applications.

That said, besides requiring a smaller space, most do not need an impact when a drill is clutched (see the different numbers on the chuck), whereas a clutched drill can use most any bit and not just the more expensive hex shank for an impact without a chuck adapter. And of course, the OP drill has a hammer mode for the occasional drilling in masonry.

Price for the 2 tools kit is showing $159 currently in east TN.
I would have been in for this with the job site fan. One of the few tools I don't have yet...
