Got these for about $140 or $150 about 18 months ago IIRC. The headband feels cheap and plasticy, but…

Comfortable and good balanced sound. Can't go wrong at this price point.

Thank you. Bought mine three weeks ago for $150 and I'm going to try to get the difference refunded.

Update: Drop refunded me the price difference with an email request.

I have both and I would say the X2 are better for gaming/movies as they have more bass, soundstage is great, and you can slap a v-moda boompro mic and you're good to go.

The 58X are better for music imo as they are more detailed and have amazing mids, so it's preference, really. I always switch out between the 2 headphones.

How does this compare with the Sennheiser hd 598 open limited edition?
Two very different animals. The 598 is not even in the same class.

They say after $200-300 there's diminishing returns but the truth is it starts at the 598 and the like. The jump from $50 jbl to entry hifi is the biggest. The next jumps are only better because you a/b tested, not really because they are. I.e. blind testing with no a/b would be really hard to distinguish for most
I wouldn't mind having the 650 but I don't like the double cables these have, id rather one cable

598/599 are good enough for the average joe i guess

audiophiles will need more

I'm looking at the Beyerdynamic line, because I need a more comfortable headphone. Big ears and all.
If you want a Beyer get the 880 or TYGR 300R. Both less sibilant than the 990's. The MMX 300 is also a good option if you want to spend a bit more and want a closed back.

That said, the 58X are very comfortable but the headband may need some stretching out for some people.

These are last of the true sennheiser made headphones.
Sennheiser is exiting the consumer headphone market and selling the trademark to chicoms.

They sold their consumer headphone business to Sonova. They are a swiss hearing aid company. Also, both Sonova and Sennheiser have already stated that they will continue producing a good portion, if not all, of their consumer headphones, barring those that sell for crap or haven't reviewed well. Sonova is bringing on basically all of the Sennheiser talent and the brand name will remain the same for the consumer and the professional markets. The professional side still stays with Sennheiser direct. It's a weird deal that seems to be an asset purchase combined with a licensing agreement, but this is about as close a literal knight in shining armor coming to save a good business as there could possibly be. What Sonova wants is to integrate hearing aid technology into headphones to reduce cost, increase access, and improve their quality overall. Where are you getting selling their trademark to chinese companies? Is that new information that just came out today or are you just making ignorant assumptions?

Great deal. I have these and actually prefer them over the HD598 and HD6XX

Compared to the HD598, it has more bass and more neutral on the high end.
Compared to the HD6xx, it is not as warm but otherwise very similar in every other area. Some people say the HD6xx is more resolving, but i don't hear it.

Take less than 1 min to do, remove cover and foam stick the furniture felt in the middle where the hole is and you are done. Put everything back and you will be amazed. Felt funiture you can buy it at walmart or even dollar tree. Here is a sample link if it dont get remove, you only need 2 piece one for left and one for right.

People have said that the driver in the 58x and the 660 are similar if not the same. But they also said that they both sound different so the cost premium is justified. Here is my speculation. the 58x uses different magnet than the 660. The stronger magnet on the 660 must make it more sensitive and retrieve more details. If so I wonder if you can do a magnet swap to upgrade the 58x to 660 sound without the significant price premium. Just wishful thinking.

Oh man i paid the full price 2 weeks ago.. they sound pretty good though. Not an audiophile at all but they sound very neutral without an equalizer imo, not a very 'wide' sound either

The Sennheiser HD 599 were <$100 from Amazon in late June.
When was that? I am trying out a Philips 9600 that I found on SD around Prime Day. Would love to hear review and feedback from people who own both the Sennheiser HD 599 and Philips 9600

The 58x are marvelous and for $130 you really cannot beat them.

One under appreciated aspect is the low fatigue signature being great for Zoom and conference calls. Some voices/mics can be quite grating to my ears, especially in the morning. With the 58x that's not a problem. Then I can switch Peace over to the oratory1990 Harman EQ and really enjoy music and games.

This is not to say that music doesn't sound good without EQ, but the sub bass bump and lifted veil you get via EQ sounds even better as long as you have a good source.

100% necessary to bend the headband wider IMO, clamp is just too much out of the box. Luckily its quite easy to flex the metal to a more comfortable shape, just watch a Youtube on it first.
I have always used a cheap $20 Bluetooth headphone. I am new to open back headphone, what is the Harman EQ you are talking about? I just got an Open Back Phillips 9600 but I don't feel any better movie or music experience. I use YouTube for Music and Netflix and Prime Video for Movies. Are there better source or software to boost my experience?
