I don't know why they do this (in the U.S. in particular). I think it's because the base cartridge is cheaper (it's similar to the microSD, and so of course a 16GB costs them less than a 32GB or a 64GB card would) Also by making you download you are kind-of tracked by their digital system anyway, except, as I said, without the digital benefit of being able to "pick-up-and-play" anytime without digging for the cartridge, assuming you even have it with you on the trip with your "portable."

I know it's probably more of a nostalgia thing now and people who loved it back in the day won't care about how old it feels. I have those kinds of games too. To each their own. 😁
Edit: I do have to day, though, Nintendo pricing on "deals" is nostalgic as well. X/X2 remaster has been this price for YEARS on other systems.

ps2 version is still considered the best by many due to rewamped faces in remasters for worse, especially Tidus
