I got this deal a couple weeks ago, but I'm having a lot of problems with VR games. Things run smoothly for about 5 minutes, but when the CPU hits 100ºC or GPU 65ºC, it gets throttled and the games become unplayable. Not just low FPS, but freezing, crashing. I consider this system useless for VR. Does OK playing Apex Legends, but sounds like a blow dryer doing it.

I picked this laptop up in the last round as a stop gap until desktop GPUs become reasonable again.

Overall impression is very solid for the money. Surprised that the build quality is reasonably good, although it isn't winning any beauty pageants soon. The plastic has this interesting "stone" gray fleck pattern. Maybe not your cup of tea but I don't plan on trying to pick up girls with it at Starbucks.

I haven't taxed the system all that much. Runs overwatch at 1080p on all ultra averaging 170fps. Dota 2 in highest settings runs similar.

Fans are loud, loud as my msi stealth gs65, loud as the gigabyte aero I had, and loud as the razer blade 15 I had. It's a gaming laptop...they're all loud under load.

Display is great. Keyboard is cramped ( I hate all num pads on laptops) . Last time I checked vast majority of gaming laptop owners are not data entry or cpa's.

Lb for lb it's the most CPU and GPU u will get for the money in today's market in a laptop. The legion 5 has the same exact specs for 400 more. Can argue aesthetics, but all gaming laptops are ugly to me save the razer blade.

Shows 115watts so I am assuming full power RTX 3060

Anyone else got this from previous deals and have a buzzing sound when GPU is running? Is this normal? Based on my search, it doesn't seem so.

This isn't bad, now that the G15 comes with ryzen, a better color accurate panel (make sure to get the 165hz panel), and better build quality than previous years it should contend with the Legion and other similarly spec'd laptops.

Been contemplating between this and the ryzen Alienware that keeps going on sale every few days.

They seem damn near similar spec but saving $150 ish with the dell, is the Alienware r5 that much better build quality?

For me I really value the keyboard, and the r5 looks to have a better one + build quality aesthetic is a bit better too. I'd say the extra $150 is worth it for those reasons, hopefully that deal pops up again soon

Yeah from the reviews I've watched on YouTube it does seem the Alienware has better build quality and no number pad so a better spacious keyboard. Truth be told I do prefer the Alienware aesthetic between these two.

Seems like they are a running a deal on the dell and Alienware every few days.

Coupled with the current 10% back on some cash back sites, either or seems like a solid deal

Been thinking about getting a gaming laptop and finally bit the bullet. Hopefully this will suffice since it's just at 1080p

Got one, it's a good machine. Runs all my games well. Runs a bit warm. Added another nvme drive but had to get the extra bracket from Amazon to do it, ran $10 bucks. No complaints really, for the price. If I could change anything on it, would prefer aluminum chassis but I suppose the price is right.
