I have gone through three of these and they have all failed in a different way.

Still a great deal if yours works
Qc issues, cannot pass timespy and screen flickering. Clean install does not help. Do not buy open box due to bb would not do stress test and mark the return as open box. You get 100% chance to get a defective one.
Honestly, it is a great laptop, BUT!! if you don't want to spend the time to remove the bottom cover, remove the battery connection, remove all the thermal cooling and 2 fans, (including breaking the caution tape over one screw), then spending probably an hr of your time ( thats about what it took for me to do it ) to remove the old Luquid Metal.. then repaste it. Don't buy this laptop.

You still have change ram by buying a ram kit if you want 100% uber fps.. as this ram has slow secondary timings ( also installed on other asus or lenovo laptops ) .

The cost of ram and this sale, with doing your thermal paste is not to bad for what you get. The benchmarks on youtube videos are very high.. 3070 - 3080 gpu speed.

Sometimes you can get a Liquid Metal application on these that are ' ok '.. but sometimes ( as bad reviews said ) it is extreme. The application of Liquid Metal should be basically one small ball bearing, applied by the black Q-Tip in the kit, rubbed back and forth about 20 times in one spot until the LM adhears into the metal forming a mirror finish. The screenshot of the customer reviews show a MASSIVE over ammount put on the two chips.
The one drop applied eventually gets spread across the chip forming a mirror finish.. and does not blob like in the photos seen in the customer reviews at the BestBuy review on this laptop.

Oh wow, this is FP material. Even at 1650 it got sold out after a week or two.

Although, there is a huge issue with these that the Liquid metals seeps through and kills the GPU. So make sure to check GPU detection and run some stress tests.

I actually removed all the liquid metal off mine, and used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Thermal Grease

Mind sharing your experience? I was thinking of getting the open-box one but the reviews deter me.

Returned mine, GPU failed after 10 minutes like many others. Not worth the hassle for me. Ponied up some more change for Alienware to not repeat the experience.

It was a hype around this laptop at the beginning. Then I started seeing a lot of open-boxes and now it's on sale. It's kinda great laptop for money but too many bad reviews.

Also, this one doesn't have HDMI 2.1, the HDMI output directly wired to iGPU, so no 4k@120 4:4:4 support. And of course, because of this, you get the performance penalty too because of it, so if you're using HDMI, this laptop is a bad choice.

Liquid metal... I about destroyed my gaming laptop doing liquid metal. Works good in some scenarios but I don't think it has longevity I've also heard there's little to no advantage putting it on the gpu.

Ive had mine for a week and just successfully did the price adjustment, now i can get 32gb ram with the savings. No quality problems for me so far, Warzone 120fps, Rocket League 300 fps with mid settings, and mining 40 Mh/s with the power turned down to keep it under 70 degrees celsius. I have fiber internet and this is my first device with wifi 6 and it's a beast at downloading, I know thats not specific to this laptop but i just wanted to say that.

I really wanted a 17.3" with qhd but theyre mostly $2200 or more. Not gonna pay $700 more for an extra 1.7 inches and better ram off the bat.

I bought an open box and it had the bad gpu and returned it, bought another open box and this one has been issue free over a week now. Its hit or miss with these machine but once you get a good one it's a beast.

Is it the 6800M models that have the problem or all the Asus Strix?
