Bought this after seeing an open box deal on it for ~$970 and change. I was setting it up and it was giving me some issues with Chrome originally, then went to install Warzone and I kept having rebooting issues. I never loaded a game before it would just reset. No blue screen or anything. Sucks because the specs for the cash are amazing but damn the thing won't stay on.
I have had this system for over a year and wouldn't recommend it, even at this price point. The built in thermal handling is abysmal and you have to manually set the APU/system wattage to avoid constant, lag-inducing, thermal throttling. I've also had to mail my unit to be repaired twice for thermal issues in a 10 month span. This last time the motherboard was replaced due to extreme oxidizing issues from incorrect application of liquid metal from the factory. I just exceeded the warranty on it and am not sure it will make it much further before another critical hardware issue pops up.
I paid this same price for my MSI Delta 15 which is an amazing machine. The Ryzen 9 5900HX is about the same as the Ryzen 7 5800H that you see in other laptops, but the RX 6800M is pretty damn nice (the MSI Delta 15 has the RX 6700M).

Only warning about the Asus Rog G15 is apperently they use liquid metal for the GPU thermal compound so be very very careful if you ever open this machine up (especially if you have to remove the cooling solution).

Only reason I ended up going MSI Delta 15 is because it is over 1 lb lighter than the vast majority of the machines in the same price range.

Not really.. the 6000 series isn't even a generational increase. It is just Zen 3+ which is a "more efficient" Zen 3 (uses lower wattage) and has slightly higher clock speeds. It also supports quad channel ram but good luck finding a laptop that would ever support quad channel. Sure Zen 3+ uses RDNA2 graphics on the chip, but you aren't buying a gaming laptop for the onboard graphics.

Also Zen 3+ uses DDR5 so the total cost goes up for not that much improvement with 2 dimm setups. In fact DDR5 still suffers from higher latency and stability issues.

All in all the review say there is about a 3% total increase in performance with Zen 3+_vs Zen 3 when you dont look at the iGPU.

Because this model uses liquid metal I would be very careful with open box and ensure no one has opened it up and screwed with it. Because you can make a mess of the board very fast.

Definitely would've jumped on this if it had HDMI 2.1 out, but 2.0b is a dealbreaker for me.

From what I've read on Reddit, this is the model that has the liquid metal issues, right? They say that issue was fixed with the QHD model.

I just can't see buying the old Gen AMD CPU. I get there is a decent savings involved . I get that there is only about a 10% performance difference . It just seems to me that the 6800 series represents more than the average generational advances.

Meh, more on the gpu side. But considering this has a dedicated graphics card, it's basically whatever.

I lucked out. I bought the same laptop about 4 months ago and I've had zero issues. This laptop... they really screwed up the quality control on the first couple of batches. Sad because it can really perform for the price point.

Any system without TB3 or TB4 is basically obsolete.

TB was for a long time proprietary to a consortium that Intel was a part of, and AMD not. It's not exactly critical lol

Many laptops from the first batch sent to Best Buy had this thermal issue. My laptop was purchased in April open-box from Best Buy for ~975 and has had none such issues. While in return window I ran many stress tests like Cinebench, Heaven Benchmark, Aida64, and Firestrike/Timespy. Also tested games in 1440p on High -> Epic Settings and was not running into throttling at all. If you buy one of these later laptops, I believe you'll be happy with it because it is quite powerful and is great bang for buck. I set a manual fan curve in the packaged software which has helped with temps and noise levels. Only gripe is that I am a new AMD graphics user and I really dislike the AMD software used to control graphics settings per game/globally.
