OP thanks very much for posting this I'm sure it helped somebody out there who was looking for a cheap usb 3.0 thumb drive and sandisk is (based on my experience anyways) a reliable brand ...
I know we're many months away from Black Friday but if anyone else is reading this post and is interested.. around that time I snagged a $64 GB PNY brand usb 3.0 thumb drive for $8 ... and for $7 I bought a 3 pack of usb 2.0 32 GB PNY brand usb thumb drives bought two packs of those , then realized I didn't have enough and bought one extra for $3 , BUT the quality is hit or miss...
The 3.0 thumb drive worked fine but of the seven usb 2.0 thumb drives I had to send one back as defective (fortunately amazon has a great return policy though it's a hassle to have to package it up and mail it back even if they cover shipping costs - slightly less painful if there's an amazon locker close by to you you can just shove it into). The replacement amazon sent worked just fine however.
Sandisk in comparison I have never had an issue with far as thumb drives (or micro SD cards for that matter), somewhat more expensive but you're paying for the quality ...
If anyone's wondering why the heck I'm bothering with usb 2.0 drives in this day and age .. they're very cheap especially on Black Friday and useful as an emergency bootable drive for a computer ... of course usb 3.0 will give you faster results so depends on how much you're willing to pay... I also routinely help friends and family members with their PC problems and if you're in that situation it helps having cheap usb 2.0 drives you can use to create bootable drives for them to hang onto in case said friend or family member runs into future issues...
