Use a detailer spray to wet the spot you are working on before rubbing the clay. Remember she needs to be wet before you can rub her. Never rub the clay on a dry surface!

How many bars would you say I would need to do an entire car that has all types of grit stuck to it?
Clay will make the paint _very_ slick. It will also allow a better bond from a sealant (sealant will last longer).
One bar should be enough to do an entire vehicle. You break a whole bar in 1/2, using only 1/2 at a time. If you drop it, throw it away. Keep "old" bars and clear your windows (outside) with them. You can also use clean clay car on hard plastic pieces, such as head and tail lights.
If someone wants a default 'good' brand - use meguiars. I havent been let down by their products. Their might be better, but it takes alot of work.
IMHO Meguiar's Rinse Free Express Wash & Wax wash is better the ONR. Seems to come off easier.
I do most of what you do, except for the ipa wipe down. seems too harsh.
Also stay away from chemical guys. some of their equipment is ok, but they are just a marketing company and I have not found one chemical they make that beat a meguiars product.
Great, thanks. Compounding sounds scary to me - intentionally sanding your car down. I remember reading about people worried about bristle brushes causing swirls from automated car washes. Imagine a sanding block and what that would do to the paint.
Compound and polish are two things I think everyone should have in their garage. Meguiars m105 and m205 is great and it also works on dirty headlights to remove oxidation. Plus if you have heavy duty oxidation on headlights, you need a headlight restoration kit, which mostly involves the use of 1000 grit plus sandpaper. Sandpaper will leave visible micro marks no matter the grit but the 105 and 205 will make your headlights look practically new and remove the sandpaper micro marks because it's use at a microscopic level
