Dewalt brushless power tool kit combo (Hammer Drill - $159

Its not bad, but pales in comparison to the XR line in terms of power, build, and efficiency. The XR tools has more metal construction around the chuck and just feels more solid...this one looks and feels more hardened plastic. Saw this price a few weeks ago for fathers day as well and its good enough for most DIYers and home use. Id pass on it though for a better set deal if you can wait.

Yeah XR anyday but out of my budget. I am just looking at this combo vs the atomic one in Home Depot. Which do you think is better deal?

Probably this one. Most folks here suggest to avoid the Atomic line. Theres even 12V line from Dewalt and Milwaukee being better than 20V Atomic.

I keep hearing that "...the Atomic stuff is crap..." line thrown around on SD. But everyone prefaces it with "I heard..." I have yet to read a comment stating "I own the Atomic stuff and it's crap because..."

Sure, it's not the XR line. Atomic tools have plastic parts, but that's not a new thing for Dewalt. How about this? I own an Atomic drill, impact driver, and recip saw and I'm happy with them because they have plenty of power for my home tools and the very compact size and light weight make them ideal for lugging up ladders, fitting into tight spaces, and overhead projects. I keep XR tools in my work toolboxes, but much of the stuff I do on the job could easily be handled by the Atomic tools. In fact I used the Atomic tools at work for nearly a year while I waited for an exceptional deal on XR drills and impact driver.

My favourite Atomic tool? That compact recip saw! I hated it for a short time after I bought it. Called it a bad purchase. But after owning the XR "compact" saw, I've really seen the niche for the Atomic. It's like it was designed for lugging up into my trees for the quarterly trimming. My only gripe about it is the shorter stroke. Works great for smaller branches and palm fronds, but takes forever to cut anything thicker than about an inch and a half. And it's not a great fit for some of the more aggressive blades with fewer teeth. Just doesn't move them far enough to really take advantage.

All in? I would definitely recommend Atomic tools for the homeowner, or even pro who won't abuse them on a regular basis.

The only atomic thing I'd buy is the multi tool. The rest isn't worth the money. I went 12v dewalt for a reason. My m18 stuff has more power. My makita drill/impact driver has the smoothness. And the dewalt 12v is for size. And yes, that 12v 3/8 impact from dewalt zips lugs right off

That's an ideal solution. For you. And for those who don't mind maintaining 3 or more battery lines. I prefer to maintain the single yellow 20v Max stuff. No matter what battery I add, I know it's gonna fit every tool in every toolbox. And with 11 toolboxes to keep stocked and working, something like that makes a big difference. Battery on the sawzall fails on the job site? No worries, grab one from another tool. Which tool? Doesn't matter! Just grab one! No need to make the (often long) voyage back to the truck.

But… I digress. You wrote "The only atomic thing I'd buy is the multi tool." That was my original point. You didn't write "I own(ed) the Atomic tools and they're crap because…"
