"Reference" in audio terms is generally referred to a speaker that is flat or "uncolored" in nature. It's a pure-even balance in tone/sound. The idea is that in recording studio audio-engineers are recording and listening to the pure and direct sound, and tuning it as desired for their desired mix. They do not want any bias (such as bass or highs) that would have them tune the mix differently that how you're hearing it. This is my understanding of where "reference speakers" were used.

When you listen at home, some people desire to listen to music as engineered, or intended it to be heard. By it's nature, "Reference" now used as a marketing term to imply the above definition. As a counter example, some speakers have more bass bias or have louder highs in their default configuration (think cheap systems) - so the term "reference" can mean something to potential buyers. As music tastes are subjective, whether this appeals to you or not is up to you.

I will say, that to my ears, these speakers are well balanced and flat and are pleasing to me. Just know they're not in the same price league as recording studio reference speakers or really high end home audio.

I've never heard the RC253, but I have the RC263 and it's the clearest dialog speaker I've heard. English is my wife's second language and she remarked right away that she could understand dialog better than the Sony and Polk before. For me, that was worth the effort to make the space for it.

It's weird how they market the RC252 as a 2.5 way speaker. It seems to be a 2 way speaker.

I think they are counting the tweeter waveguide as a 1/2 driver which is odd.
the determination is based on the frequencies the drivers reproduce (Bass, mid and/or high) or combination of.

marginally better than the plethora of klipsch advertisements posted by SD editors on this site. however, after listening to several recent Infinity models they are all a bit nasal (thin) in their reproduction.

From what I've read, one woofer is mid range and low, and the other is only low frequency, making the 2.5.

And, since it seems to be a tweeter and two woofers crossed over at the same frequency that's two frequency sections still making it a 2 way. Unless one of the woofers is crossed over differently, which I highly doubt but could be, then it's a 2 way.
The marketing seems to indicate they are counting the waveguide, on the tweeter. If so, that's some silly marketing.

I have the RC252 that I got for a little more than this last year. I was a little disappointed adding them to my current setup (R253 towers and the R12 sub). It could be that I couldn't set them up properly via my receiver and it kept canceling out the towers mid range and bass and only allowed the highs from the tower. I ended up setting them up all so they all basically cross over and it sounds better, but not noticeably better.

How is RC252 compared to SSCS8? Pairing with Sony core L/R speakers.

I have a situation where I have space for two horizontal speakers under the tv to the left and right, and not space for vertical bookshelves.

I am thinking of getting two of these for left/right and virtual center. I wonder how well they would work. I would maybe add a sub.

I have two 5.4 atmos setups in my summer home. But don't have the layout for this in my winter home and therefore thinking of giving these a try to be at least better than the 77 lg oled speakers.

edit: never mind these are too large for mu available space. I have 18w 7.5h 13d available.
I feel you.

My 5 year old has a 7.1.4 setup in his bedroom. The OLED has slight burn in from PS5.

So for the 3 year old I decided on a setting up a basic 5.1 so I don't have to get ceiling work done. But she gets an 85" 8k tv to make up for it.

Edit. Guess room isn't really my problem, just extra work.

I have the RC252 that I bought the last time these went on sale. I also bought the 152 for front left and right. The standing tower speakers are a bit extreme for my needs and room, I thought. These replaced some well-regarded but discontinued Logitech THX-rated computer speakers I had been using for years (those are ridiculed in certain circles, I'm told, but I really enjoyed the sound quality/profile and they're still coveted by some).

I can't say I've noticed that the Infinity speakers are markedly better than what I had, but I haven't had time to really push the limits of these to examine them critically. They're connected to a Denon x3600h and have been Audyssey XT32 calibrated, so I think overall it's a decent low to mid-level entry system.

I'm looking for some opinions on the often posted bookshelf speakers: the Klipsch RP-600M, Triangle Borea BR03, these bookshelf speakers, and any other comparable bookshelf speakers.
This will be for a 2.1 entertainment system in a small room. Whats the best quality for the price? Or, what's simply the best?

Bad idea. You are much better off just getting the RC252 for your center as opposed to a completely different brand.

I have the Sony towers and center. Upgraded the center to the rc263 (should be similar?) and it matches pretty well. Would definitely recommend this for a mixed stereo HT setup.

Thanks. Ordered RC252. Will see how it goes. I have 30 days from delivery to decide.
