Bought one a couple weeks ago when it was 140. I challenge anyone to find a phone of this quality for this price brand new. One of the commenters said it was slow. I disagree, it's running Android 11, and doesn't seem to be any slower than my Galaxy S10. For the person wanting to get back into Android phones, this is the perfect opportunity to get a flagship from a couple generations ago for cheap. Bummer that there is no headphone jack, and the top and bottom bezel are larger than the newer model phones, but that leaves good amount of space for the stereo speakers on top and bottom, they are better than any other phone I've ever had. Again, I want to point out that this is running Android 11, and even though it is not being updated any further, it's amazing to get Android 11 for this price.

have you tried a flip phone . . . that stuff can do some magic in the hands of a pro . . . Applause
A flip phone can't do 4G LTE. The basic calling function is severally hampered. On the other hand, for merely $150 total out of pocket, I'm happy to trade the trusty flip phone for Android 11 and Snapdragon 835 and 6-inch OLED screen.

I mean, the scratch and dent one is only $85 and if the bootloader is unlocked you can install another OS and continue to receive updates that way.
For most it's not worth the effort to research how to do that

I can't speak to the quality of the deal, but as someone who's had this phone for 4 years, I can say it's a great phone. While it certainly can't compete with today's flagships, if you're looking for a good phone without spending $1,000 (or even 1/2 that), this is a good phone to buy.
Yep! I'm on this 3 years and 4 months now. it crashed turning off immediately when I plugged in the charge recently. Not sure why. Cleaned the port and checked out all the app but could not locate the issue. If not because of this, I wouldn't expect the pixel 6 this year. Was going to rock another year or two on this.

The deal says it is a 1 year warranty, but my understanding is that Google extended the warranty on all Pixel 2 and 2 XL's to two years?

Not a bad deal, I'm currently using a Pixel 2 XL on TMO. 5G is still new so not that important maybe in 2 years when this phone takes the shit you can buy a 5G phone. I have 5 other 5G phones and I honestly can't really tell the difference in day to day use. Speed test shows faster, but not night and day difference.
Pros: still a nice camera, battery life is decent should last a day (new), pure google experience lag-free, call screening and dual front speakers.
Cons: No SD Slot, no wireless charging, no zoom/wide angle and the blue shift screen (doesn't bother me)

I personally think it's still a good phone for those wanting to try out an Android phone in it's purest form.

I have this phone and a few other phones including a new iphone. It's a great device. It's a little slower than an iphone and the build quality isn't as good but it performs well enough to make using it enjoyable. At the price there isn't a competitor for miles. I'm comparing it to a device that costs 7 times as much. If you need to be "that guy" who has to prove to everyone how accomplished they are then by all means take your $1000+ and go for the samsungs and the apples. For the majority of people this phone should tick all the boxes.

real reason: to allow better waterproofing
The phones with ip67 rating still used to have the headphone jack though. Real reason is to save and make money, save by not including a headphone in the box and make by selling wireless ones.

Are there any clever things that can be done with this phone other than using it for a phone? Like a wall mounted display for the house, or a universal remote control, or something else?

No. 4g is here for many years while 5g is quite limited and there are multiple different standards.

The way 5G goes, if you go to a different country, you'll need a different 5G phone. They do this by different 5G standards/bands. If you use your 5G phone in a different country, it will default to 4G bands. Thus, you'll need a 5G phone that has all 4G bands to cover the countries you'll be visiting.

If it comes back in stock: No, this would totally be an upgrade. Newer Android, Faster CPU, AMOLED screen, MUCH better camera, and free "High Quality" photo storage (aka compressed but still nice) via google photos. Looks great to me in comparison. Plus, if you could flash Lineage or other community updated ROM to it, then the updates will keep coming.
