Bought one a couple weeks ago when it was 140. I challenge anyone to find a phone of this quality for this price brand new. One of the commenters said it was slow. I disagree, it's running Android 11, and doesn't seem to be any slower than my Galaxy S10. For the person wanting to get back into Android phones, this is the perfect opportunity to get a flagship from a couple generations ago for cheap. Bummer that there is no headphone jack, and the top and bottom bezel are larger than the newer model phones, but that leaves good amount of space for the stereo speakers on top and bottom, they are better than any other phone I've ever had. Again, I want to point out that this is running Android 11, and even though it is not being updated any further, it's amazing to get Android 11 for this price.

Just to make sure I understand, this phone is currently $130 and you're saying it's slow to the point of being frustrating but you'd be okay if it were $90? So that frustrating slowness is worth roughly $40 to you?
If you absolutely need a knife to cut something and all you have is $10. And the only knifes on sale are:

1. Dull knife for $9
2. Sharp knife for $14

You would pick the dull frustrating knife, because it's better than NO knife Peace

Sadly faxing is most certainly alive and kicking. I work for second largest hospital system and we 10s of thousands of faxes a day.
you see, that's your problem . . . here at the first largest hospital system we use Efax and Email.

nobody should buy this. the Pixel 3 is lightyears ahead and is still getting at least one more OS upgrade this fall. Pixel 2 is long past it's end of life for support and security updates.

Do you think this phone would make a good "minitablet" for wireless use only? Is there anything special I would need to do to use it like this?

I have a work phone for 80% of this type of use, but I use an iphone 5 currently as a second phone for personal use mostly as a tablet or when the work phone has heavy usage and battery gets low.

This would be considered an upgrade to that iphone 5.

Had this phone for 3 years and traded it for 4a5g with Google last November. It was good for 3;years but was becoming slow after that. I won't recommend this old phone if you install and use lot of apps/browsing. For light use this is great phone. I got trade in for $235 from Google. I would have used it for another year if the trade-in value was not great.

lol I did the exact same trade in

I bought my Panda 2XL launch day from Google. They advertised it as "unlocked". Color me shocked when I tried to load another OS 2 years ago and discovered that it was indeed locked. There are a few threads in the google support forums about this. Google isn't doing anything about it though. They've actually never admitted that the Panda was locked and the black wasn't (this is the first I'm reading of it). That experience left a bad taste in my mouth, but otherwise the phone has been awesome until late. My battery life is truly bad now, and is getting worse by the day. I'm holding out for the Pixel 6, because I can't see myself using an iPhone (I'm typing this on a Macbook, so I'm not an Apple hater) and I refuse to use any Android device that has manufacturer bloatware installed on top of Android (I miss my Moto X Pure Bamboo phone).
There's a difference between carrier unlocked, and bootloader unlocked. Phones from Google can be carrier unlocked which they advertise. Bootloader's usually come locked, but can easily be unlocked to flash ROMs

If comparing to a new(er) 'budget' phone (sub $200), you'll find that this 5 year old phone holds it own spec-wise

The Pixel 2 XL was a great phone but it's a bit outdated now. I probably wouldn't want it as a daily driver anymore but it would make a good backup

What's with all the Pixel 2 and 3 deals recently? Is there some large warehouse with excess inventory somewhere? I loved my Pixel 3 but at this points that's a 3 year old phone
Pixel 6 about to get released in October. They're trying to get rid of inventory

I'm well aware of that. Google (and their support team) assured everyone including me, that this phone was both carrier and bootloader unlocked before the launch.

Does anyone know if I can use this phone to upload photos to Google Photos without activating it with my carrier (Verizon)? I have a lot of photos and videos I want to move from Dropbox to Google Photos (I know, I should have probably done this months ago). I simply want to connect the phone to my Google account. If I understand Google policies, uploading from this phone (over WIFI) should mean my old photos do not count against my storage cap. Is this correct? I would also like to use it as a camera (really wanting to try the G camera) and load some small game apps for my daughter to play with in the car. I don't care about battery life, making calls, or the phone getting updates. I am thinking of getting the Pixel 6 when it comes out and using this phone as a trade-in.
You can use any Android phone to upload to Google photos via wifi (unactivated). just put it in airplane mode and turn on wifi to avoid any annoying network error messages.

However, any pixel 2 and beyond will have end of service dates for uncompressed original file size. Then, you'll need to select storage saver. The pixel 2/2xl have reached this time, so only storage saver. Likewise, there may be a time (if not now) that Google makes compressed storage saver count towards 15gb acct (including mail and drive) limit.

Only the original pixel (pixel 1) will have uncompressed photo and video uploads for life of phone. This includes (at the moment) any photos and videos even if taken from a dslr or camcorder or action cam.

Almost no phone in this price range will ever get an update. Why is this even a valid argument? This phone will be markedly better than any new budget phone in its price range. Also phones become slow because of a cluttered OS and a bad battery. This would have a mostly new battery (batteries degrade a little from time alone.) This or the recent pixel 3 deals should definitely be considered if you want to spend under $200 and get an excellent phone. I wouldn't risk a refurb but new, this is great.
