The bowie version of the Cold Steel Bushman knife is only $13.59 with free Prime shipping at Amazon at the moment. Normal price is usually ~$20. Great deal on a full tang fixed blade knife. Hollow handle is part of the blade and can be put on pole to make a spear or stuff gear inside. Includes fire starter and sheath. Solid high carbon Sk5 steel which is similar to American 1084 steel. Tough, easy to sharpen, but will rust hence the black coating. Great knife to throw in the car or truck and cheap enough to use and abuse. Pretty popular survival and bushcraft knife due to the low cost and durability. Bonus it will make you feel like Bear Grylls!

Looks like junk but I want to make a spear and pretend like I'm Bear Grylls. Sold
I have had one for years. Solid knife. Reviews say it gets brittle at freezing temps. It is super flexible when warm and will not break when bent. The handle is smooth so you want to wrap it in Paracord or tape or you might end up in the ER. Spine is at an angle so you can baton but it sucks for that. There is a hole in the side of the base of the handle to put a nail in when you use it as a spear. You absolutely have the put a nail in not to secure the spear handle but to stop the handle from going to deep and getting stuck in the knife. If it gets stuck you will have to drill out or burn out the wood from the handle. it comes with a Ferro rod which works but it broke when I used it for the first time. The rod fell out of the handle and the rod itself split down the length. The spine is coated in the anti rust black coating. you need to file it off the spine to use it on the Ferro rod if you don't want to use the blade edge. needs oil if you don't want rust. another thing to add, a spear is a pointy end on a stick. this ends up more like a polearm because it is a blade great for cutting down bananas from a tree,
Yeah,,,, but you'll have to strand yourself somewhere remote to do that...

*Just make sure it's within walking distance from a Ramada Inn.

Looks like a great way to lose or seriously lacerate some fingers whilst bushcrafting. Lack of guard and smooth handle = a new nickname of "ol' 3 Fingers".

Nice review. Thank you! Here is a link explaining the steel type used. It is not one of the new "super steels" but for this application and price point, it looks like a good match. Except for being a survival type knife and not being stainless, the specs on this steel look pretty solid.
