I don't have personal experience, so I couldn't tell you.

However, one of the biggest differences is the purpose. This is a gaming headset and includes a really high quality microphone with Sennheiser quality speakers and build.

This headset comes with 2 cables. The shorter cable has a stereo output and microphone input integrated into the same jack (TRRS). The longer cable has 2 jacks for plugging into the stereo output and microphone input on your computer or other audio device. Here is a video to explain the differences: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4hy63fEgA0 The easy way to remember is count how many black bands are on the jack. Generally,

1 black band = mono (single channel)
2 black bands = stereo (2 channels)
3 black bands = stereo plus mic input (3 channels)

Sorry to answer my own question but I was watching this review and I think that yes, this will work for me: https://youtu.be/zNjO98dZUGQ?t=147

I had a pair of Monoprice headsets where the ear cushions started to disintegrate getting black pieces everywhere. Everyone seem to have had these sennheisers forever, do the cushions ever disintegrate?
Prolly these, the 8323 [monoprice.com]? Haha, mine certainly did/ Everyone raves about them (and a few other monoprice headphones) for value but they didn't even last a couple of years and I take decent care of my gear.

I have both and I prefer these over the alienware. If the alienware was open back and addressed some issues (that f'n voice telling you when mic is on/off is so stupid!), I would prefer them. If you prefer closed back then you might prefer the alienware sound stage. I have been told that the mic on the sennheiser sounds better, but the alienware mic isn't bad either.

I also have the 37x and those are good as well (got both as open box in pristine condition for super cheap) I do appreciate the 38x having both cables especially in a case where a cable gets damaged (I think my mic cable on the 37x is having issues), so you could replace them. The 38x audio is a little better, and I think I remember that Joshua dude on YouTube having a good comparison video (I want to say the drivers were updated but I can't remember for sure). The 37x is the clear winner for color, though you could fix that by slapping a Wu-Tang Killah bee on the 38x. 😉

Another bonus over the 37x is the 38x comes with 2 sets of pads - velour and I think a pleather. I've kept the velour on as I'm used to those. I have a fat head (bigger than 7.5 hat) and the 38x is comfortable for long sessions. I'd say more comfortable than the alienware.
Where'd you get either of these open-box in pristine condition for super cheap? Amazon Warehouse hasn't had the PC37X > Acceptable or the PC38X for cheaper than what they cost brand new at Drop right now w/ the new user discount (while the latter hasn't even dropped below this price).

I'd love to get these but I don't think I can justify spending up to 50% more than the 37X for which other than the slightly improved sound, is an identical model. While I can always be convinced wrong, it depends on the individual and what they value more and atm (during/after pandemic), prolly won't be, so hope both models will be cheaper on BF.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I don't have this headphones, but to my experience, I wouldn't use an open-back for competitive FPS esport game. I have the shp9500 philips open-back and sometimes it is really hard to identify subtle footstep sound that is a little far away. With the close-back I might able to hear the cue better.
thats incorrect. open back provides sound stage which helps alot with sound positioning . You want open back for esports. The reason why some people use closed back is to prevent sound leakage so that others around you wont hear the sound coming out of your headphones. .

As far as footsteps you need a headphone that has very good imaging and sound separation so that when multiple players/sounds are around you in game, you can distinguish footsteps from other sounds explosions etc and which direction left right above below . Plenty of higher end cans can do this , the PC38x however is a perfectly good example and top tier in sound stage, imagining and detail under 150.
If you need close back maybe look at game zero from sennheiser but again you will be sacrificing the sound awareness that you get with a larger sound stage in favor of perhaps subbass and sound isolation.

I use these with my PS5 straight out of the controller without an amp and get fantastic results.

I set an eBay notice and lucked out on both. The 38x almost looked like a bunch were snatched up for an event, I'm not sure. All I know is they didn't look like they were out of the box such as no prints, hair, flakes lol. The 37x were a gift to whoever and they didn't need them. That's how the story went anyway. Both had good feedback and I used paypal in case I needed to reject them.

I got the 38x only because that is what I was after but didn't find a good deal until after the 37x. My son is working towards 'buying' the 37x off of me. 😉

Can someone pls answer???

So I have Audio Technica ATX50b or something like that. I set that up with a vmoda boom pro mic and then I hooked up to my Xbox controller. So here is my issue: the mic quality is not excellent. My buddies report a faint buzzing/static Everytime I speak. They say it doesn't bother them but it's there regardless. So if anyone can comment on the mic quality for Xbox use I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Is this recommended for home office Skype / Teams calls? I don't much mind my family hearing noise leaking from the open back, I just wouldn't want too much noise to leak in.

I upgraded not too long ago with a MSI mag b550 Tomahawk which should be decent I would think. I got a HD58X jubilee and it doesn't have the same problem. Gets plenty loud. It also doesn't have the same problems of muffled sound or crappy sound positioning.
I have the same problem - I'm running a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite and the volume maxed out was not good enough. I ended up buying a sound blaster usb DAC, now I have it at like 75-80% volume. Just for comparison if I plug in ear buds that I got with my samsung phone for a zoom call (so I'm not wearing a giant gaming headset for work calls) I have to turn down the volume to like 15-20% so I don't blow out my ear drums.

I wouldn't try to compare a music headset to a gaming headset.

Gaming headsets are usually factory biased to enhance gaming experience and of course has a microphone. (though this Sennheiser seems to have flatter frequency response than others)

Good or professional music headset tends to be a monitor with flat frequency response (which is not easy to make) to have closest reproduction of the sound and users listen it as original sound or use equalizer to tune to their like.
Of course, some people like basshead prefer factory biased headset already tuned to their like (then they shouldn't pay extra for a monitor headset)

My preference is to use a monitor headset with microphone and use equalizer to have a separate profile to tune for gaming experience
It is absolutely fair to compare music headsets to gaming headsets. The best gaming headsets are music headsets. The best gaming headsets are based on music headsets. I used to use the Sennheiser HD598 for gaming and was much better than all my other previous "gaming" headsets". I now use the AKG K712 Pro.

For regular gaming, the X2 would be great, but if we're talking specifically FPS playing then no, the PC83X would be better.

Tried a dozen headsets for gaming specifically and these won even compared to many wireless high end options $300+. Wireless just isn't there yet. Mute mic on the headphone ( flip it up ) has been a game changer. Use it all the time when my wife is yelling at me to stop gaming. 😂. There are much better music orientation headsets but I tend to use my 2.1 speakers for music not headphones.

I wish I paid so little. I had noise the cancelling ones.

Mic quality is top tier. Not quite broadcast quality, but people on Xbox, PS5 and Zoom all comment about how excellent and clear the mic's sound quality is.
