I had a 4TB Toshiba HDD that failed under warranty last year. After I made a claim I was promised a VISA gift card as a replacement. I mailed the drive to them but two months later my warranty claim was still in limbo. I had to contact them several times after that and over another two months went by before I finally got a check from them. Total it took over four months plus to revolve my warranty claim...

Needless to say I probably won't buy a Toshiba HDD in the near future.

512e means the drive natively does reads and writes in 4096 byte chunks called sectors or blocks but it's backward compatible with 512 byte addressing from the OS through firmware. Almost all drives have moved to this new block standard.
The old standard called simply 512n was 512 bytes. To the end user, these disks perform basically the same since the addressing is handled by the OS but it allows for higher performance and storage density.
4kn drives can't work with 512 byte addressing and will cause problems. Many applications are hard coded that a sector is 512 bytes so older applications and OS won't be compatible

Just because you want a $95 4TB ssd doesn't mean it "should" be that price. Fabs and machines cost billions of dollars, and if you haven't heard there's not enough of them to meet current demand at the current prices. Not sure where you're picking these arbitrary prices from.

Isn't this what separates a Toshiba from HGST or even Seagate? I'm not suggesting they're problematic drives, just that cost cutting in the form of support has been part of Toshiba's current positioning.

I have to agree look at the articles below. You are being ripped off to line a fee companies pockets.

Still waiting to replace my 1TB NVMe SSD I bought three years ago for $69. Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron stop colluding to milk the consumer at 1-2TB kkthx. We are ready to be cheated at 4-16TB.

I have read similar comments about Toshiba support for their hard disk products, although I am not sure if they handle enterprise grade hardware support the same way as they handle consumer grade hardware support.

I am interested in getting several of these drives for a Truenas server, but I'm concerned about the warranty experience. I sent email to Toshiba, earlier today, asking how warranty would be handled for drives purchased from newegg.com. If they respond before the newegg sale ends, I will consider purchasing some Toshiba drives.
