The REL will be faster and tighter than the HSU VTF subs. This is a sealed subwoofer, so it will generally be better for music than movies, but this 15 should handle both applications well. Overall, I would place this as above the flagship HSU subwoofers as the materials are more premium.

How does this compare the higher-end subs from HSU?

Not substantially different than the hsu competition.

That's comparing ported to sealed. Ported will respond differently to a room given the different frequency response.

There's no magic here. The rel will sound similar to the hsu sealed equivalent.

$1799 is more than I think these are worth (I don't see them outperforming Rythmik's F15HP which is $1424), but $999 is a steal for what you're getting.

Super deal. BTW the Predator is the home theater line of REL's subs. Their T and S series will be better for music. Faster and tighter. They also have high level connections through Speakon cables. Not saying you won't enjoy the Predator but it's better if you are more movie person than music.

Agreed. When I heard higher-end HSU I immediate thought the VTF15H MK2.

Comparing this to the sealed HSU, I think the REL is a better buy at this price. The REL has a more powerful amp, rubber surround (vs foam), carbon fiber cone.

Yeah, the rel is slightly higher quality construction and slightly more power but it's slightly more expensive. I highly doubt you'll be hearing that difference if we're being honest with ourselves.

The reality is that the MSRP of the sub is just stupid; meant to take advantage of people who don't know much about subwoofers. It's not worth more than ~$1200. So while this is a fine deal if it fits your needs, I wouldn't say it's smoking hot. It'll work in a smaller room; for larger rooms go ported. 6db down at 21hz isn't ideal for home theater in a big room.

She said it doesn't go low enough? Are you walking around dragging it on the floor or through grass when it itches?

I just returned SB16 Ultra as it doesn't go low enough for HT duty. This REL is probably not the best choice for HT if you care about digging deep.
I will be looking only at ported subs going forward

I believe the only thing attracting people to this sub is that it was 1700$ and now it's 1000$. That's the only thing that's tempting
