High merv filters in your AC are garbage. Your AC isn't an air purifier. You're restricting your airflow and trashing your AC in the process.

Modern blowers are designed to handle higher Merv filters. With deeper/multiple pleated filters, the restriction is minimal and no problem.

Check your HVAC system, it should state what type of filters it's designed to handle.

When I had a/c installed I had a 4" filter installed for exactly that reason

3m runs too large last time I tried. I use 20 x 30 x 1. But it was closer to 21 x 31. I had to bend and squish to get it to fit. It was fire season too, so I didn't have the choice to return the item and wait for a replacement.

Yep. MERV 7 or 8 max. I don't get why people think their air handler should be filtering pollen. It's there to keep the blower and evaporator clean and that's about it.

Merv 8 should be suffice for most homes. Replace every 2 months. Unless you run the AC for 75% of the time for that month. Unless you are 💯 germaphobic go with a higher Merv but that will make your furnace run harder.
