It was apparently rated in Korea already so I feel strongly that we'll get it this year. Konami's been dipping their toes back into the video game market so hooray for us.
What's so special the screen shots looks like typical 2d platform game...
Because it literally serves as one of the reasons many of those "typical" 2D platform games exist. There is nothing typical about it, especially when it came out. If it weren't for this game and Metroid, there would be no Metroidvania genre. It's an essential game for many, many reasons.

SOTN is something of a sandbox game. It requires very little platforming technique.
Instead, you explore the castle at your own pace. Along the way discovering and collecting numerous weapons, items, and magic spells to experiment with
Didn't SOTN get some kind of recent upgrade/port, or did I imagine that? I realize a game of its age can't exactly get next-gen graphical enhancements, but I thought they did some upgrade to it.

Hit the nail on the head with this statement right here! To be honest, I just barely started getting back in to metroidvania games in the last few years and I have to say this as well as super metroid definitely paved a path for this genre as a whole. If anybody is reading this and enjoy playing a few more "modern" games similar to SotN I would highly recommend either of the Ori games (Blind Forest and Will of the Wisps) and this small indie game called Hollow Knight (which I am sure NOBODY has ever heard of here on SD ;P /s)

I don't think so. Are you maybe thinking of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night which is a spiritual successor? If you don't already know, that game was created by Koji Igarashi and he was also one of the main influences of SotN. If I am wrong and there was some kind of recent upgrade or port please let me know as I would love to play it!
Never played a castlevania game - is lords of shadow a good one? I own SOTN on iOS already. The collection for $5 seems solid too- is it good for a console or better on switch?
I went for Switch just for portability. Runs great on it at far as I can tell.

Hollow Knight is incredible. I'm getting back into the original metroidvania games now after playing all the newer ones. Thx for the heads-up OP. SOTN incoming.
