There absolutely is a grind in the 7-9 book range, but it's worth powering through. Especially when you get to the Brandon Sanderson written books (last 3).

I've started this series twice, and gave up both times right here!
For me books 6-10 constituted the grind. In fact, I still haven't made it through 10 on my 3rd or 4th attempt at finishing the series. It may have started earlier with that horrible menagerie/circus. Ugh...
Yah, I hear that it ends well with Sanderson, that's why I keep trying to get there.
This. The life hack I used was just reading a plot synopsis on a fan page.
Not a good deal unless you really have to read these now. They've frequently dropped to $1.99-2.99.
I've only ever seen EotW for $2.99. I've had a SD alert for wheel of time since 2018. If you see the others drop please post them because I've not seen them in the last 3 or so years.
Rereading Stormlight Archives book 1-3 now before starting 4. I assume I need to read the first 9 books to make sense of the Sanderson written ones right?
There are some great summaries out there for each book. My suggestion. Read 1-5 or 6, summaries then 6-9, read 10 on... you'll be lost without at least reading the summaries 1-9.
I haven't read the wheel of time series, I may eventually and I don't think it's been mentioned but I just wanted to let any fans know that there is an upcoming amazon prime TV series based on the books. (Yes I know this doesn't pertain to the deal itself but just kind of an FYI.)

Books 1-3 we're $2.99 each last summer at different times (they're in my Google Play library.) I haven't seen the other books go on sale before though.
It's a great series, but story just kind of keeps rebooting, in a repeating overall framework. When I found out they were still pumping them out as I was reading volume 12, I finally bailed.
It's been many years, but I think you're good with five or six. Just hard to find a stopping point at the end of any particular book, is how they get you.
You stopped reading during book 12 out of 14? You have some serious willpower because there's no way I could stop almost anything after that long while I'm ~80-85% through. Unless it's real dog shit I'm slogging through that just to know how it ends.

Well 14 wasn't out when I was reading 12, but ik they were still in the pipeline, and no idea if there was an end in sight. Slogging for sure. I started wanting to quit in the middle of every book, but the end of each kind of takes you to the next.
Yes, there is a "grind" between books 7-10, particularly book 10. No, it's not nearly as bad going through it now as opposed to when the series first was coming out and you had to wait god knows how long between releases. With the exception of 10 they're still good books. This is one of the best fantasy series ever written and the fact that it's actually complete means you know you're getting the full story, unlike kingkiller, GoT, etc.
For those audiobook listeners, the Add Audible Narration price is $7.49 for four of the books (and $8.49 for the other--I think) for a total of $12.48 each for the audiobook version (plus the ebook). Not a deal relative to the Audible annual plan deal ($99 or so), but a decent deal relative to the price of the standard monthly Audible charge of $15.

Wonder if the whole series will go on sale as Amazon gets closer to launching their live action series
