I wasn't planning on buying this game because I have it on wii u but never finished it. At this price w digital download I had to pull the trigger. At least if it's on switch I'll actually play it.
I have about 12 games on the Switch and I can say without any reservations, this is the best game on the Switch right now. I do think Mario World 3D and Mario Deluxe fall into 2nd. I have a 5 and 7 year old that also need to be able to play these games, for perspective
So I am a massive Nintendo fanboy. Have only ever had an Xbox 360 as a non-Nintendo console, but have owned all of the home consoles, GB and 2DS plus both classics. Had played like 10 minutes of NES and SNES Zeldas, but otherwise just said they weren't my thing. I co-hosted a Pop Culture Club at my HS last school year where we naturally talked video games. It is always shocking to others in the video game know I had no interest in this game - borrowed it from a cousin and played 5 minutes before giving it back. Students and coworkers kept getting on me to just dive in.
So this was on sale recently and I bought it. I said to myself I had to suck it up, use guides, etc. in order to finish the game. I still have a ton of shrines to go and the DLC, but I did actually beat the end boss after numerous checks of guides and some YouTube videos. Totally recommend at least experiencing this game. I did actually finish Links Awakening after and they are similar, yet very different both in style and visuals. I plan on working through SNES Zelda and actually had bought a Link Between Worlds and Ocarina of Time when Target had an insane 1st part 3DS blow out a while back ($5 each game) and need to try those at some point. I had figured for the cost to get as many 3DS games as I could justify and didn't already own.
So take it from a lifelong Mario fan that enjoys Kirby, Yoshi, DK, Luigi, and others yet never got into Zelda. This game is obviously a bit outside of my usual, but it was enjoyable. The art style, while not my taste at all, did grow on me a lot. My wife actually loved the visuals and wanted me to play so she could see it.
Immortals fenyx rising ($20) and Genshin Impact (free to play) are excellent alternatives to the overpriced BOTW and have a lot of fun.
You have no idea what you are talking about do you? Genshin isn't a bad copy. Fenyx...meh... They just can't compare to BOTW. Speaking of overpriced. I bought my copy for $49 and sold it for $45. I think Fenyx will end up cost more.

Is it somehow worse or less playable now? It's not like a used car that gets worn out or made obsolete quickly.
In other news, the Switch is still $299 four years later…and I just bought one this week
Also just bought this game for $42, but be aware delivery is about a month away on Amazon.
You can also get this price at best buy. Walmart and GameStop have also price matched btw.
For my opinion on the game, yeah $40 is steep but it is quite the experience and worth it. That's what I paid for it a year ago with no regret and it's first party Nintendo so what can you expect.
TL;DR pricey but worth it.

One of the best games I've ever played. Crazy it's still pulling 60 normally. Got me thru the infant phase w my first kid (2019). Generally speaking close to equivalent experience in tablet mode to projected, but a few of the puzzles (shrines) require rotation of the controller, which makes it so you can't see the screen. If you get stuck on those use a pro controller.
