Why do we need a quarterly reminder for this? how is this a deal, this is a deal site not a reminder site
I've never forgotten to activate a quarterly CB but it's kind of dumb that we have to activate it.
It should just be automatic.
For those out there wondering what's for August and September... it's PayPal and Restaurants 5% CB going on July-Sept ✌

I chatted with them a couple months and asked if they had any interest rate promos available for my account and they gave me a year with 0% interest. Worth the five minute chat.

Not that great for me... I imagine most Slickdealers already have an Amazon Store Card or other card that always gives them 5% back from Amazon, and a REDcard for always getting 5% back from Target... so that just leaves Walmart.com.

That would make too much sense. It's like those coupons that you must "clip" to get the savings.

Because many people will forget. It's called slippage and it's built into their pricing models. Without it there wouldn't be any cash back or savings for you and I.

Its good for people who activate it regularly.
Its because of people who don't active, we get 5% cashback...otherwise, we would have gotten just 2%.

I make this insert in Excel and print for my wallet so I can remember what cards offer what percentage each quarter and highlight the best to use for my purposes.

if only that was true. unfortunately it's more likely this is a leftover relic from the 1980s that has never been resolved or fixed. or discover is too lazy or too cheap to update the code. also probably an opportunity to advertise and cover the terms with you. programming processes to take advantage of cardholders forgetting to do something is a 20-year old trick that no longer works in this day and age. exactly why you don't see it being implemented in any of the newer processes. only time you might see it when there is genuine concern such as limited promotions or the ability to control/manage the process or report the numbers....or maybe a true technical limitation on the process. anyone who thinks this is a valid marketing technique or valid business process designed to increase sales/profits/etc is stuck in the 1990s. customers won't stand for this nonsense anymore and you won't get the lift you expected. imagine if target forced redcard holders to click on a button every week in order to get a 5% discount...else you don't get it. imagine if you had to clear it with the credit card before you made your purchase in order to get price protection or warranty protection otherwise you pissed it away. today, it's very popular to ask for credits (and received them) and it's very easy to take stuff back for a return....especially for "good" customers which are the one's who will use these discount programs. it's not very popular to prey on customers like that any longer. if i forget to click on the button and i bought a $1000 item from amazon and i called discover card for the extra $40 and they told me no, i would return the amazon purchase. typically it's only a matter of time before you see recurring actions. why offer a recurring payment online when you get 12 chances a year for someone to forget to pay their bill? why offer overdraft protection when you can wait for a customer to get hit with $150 in overdraft fees before he calls and you negotiate it down to $50 and add the service for $1/month and 29% interest going forward.

That's with the Chase "Pay Yourself Back" with an extra 10% value in points on dining. It's more a reminder which chase cards have the bonuses to charge specific items. I haven't updated the list, but my Sapphire Preferred has 25% bonus on points for Dining, Home Improvement, and Grocery Stores. So you earn your points from your 1% and 5% back, then get the extra bonus using those points.

For example, I paid for things getting 5% points back on all my cards. Then I move the points around to a card with the pay yourself back and buy things that have no added bonus using that card. I spend $13.88 for something at Lowe's. I earned 1% back on it as normal, but then instead of using 1,388 points ($13.88 value 1:1) , I only use 75% of 1,388 or 1,110 points ($11.10). So with the 1% and the PYB bonus, I only paid $10.96 for a $13.88 item (actually it was $15.39 but use my 10% military discount). I get some added value to my points since I don't travel and don't want to get cash back at the basic 1:1 value.

To get 5% cash back on Amazon purchases July thru Sept, use Paypal to pay your Amzn bill. How? Paypal now has a virtual debit card (Mastercard). Use that Mastercard number to pay Amzn. Then have your Paypal bill paid from Discover. It works! 5% cashback.

Gotta think outside of the box folks.

How do you fund the PayPal cash card with discover? It only gives me debit cards and banks as the top up option
