Why do we need a quarterly reminder for this? how is this a deal, this is a deal site not a reminder site
I've never forgotten to activate a quarterly CB but it's kind of dumb that we have to activate it.
It should just be automatic.
For those out there wondering what's for August and September... it's PayPal and Restaurants 5% CB going on July-Sept ✌

Was thinking the exact same thing. Even so, if it was a deal, it does not start for almost 2 months

Paypal perfect bc can use paypal to buy verizon gift cards to pay your bill and also use paypal to buy shoprite gift cards so get grocery again at 5%
I have PayPal Key setup on my Verizon account for payment. It is considered a debit card to Verizon, however, I can fund it with any credit card so I change it all the time as different cards pay more via Paypal. It is awesome. No need to buy gift cards. Right niow I'm funding it with Discover. In the fall I will fund with Chase Freedom.

Since there's only a month left, there might not be enough time for me to take advantage of this, but if I got the PayPal debit card, can I use that to buy stuff, then pay off the owed balance in my PayPal account using the Discover card? Or does PayPal automatically deduct the amount from my linked bank account or require actual money on the account? Unfortunately, I didn't have much use for PayPal recently so I didn't get to take advantage of the current cashback offer. If was able to use the PayPal card for things like Amazon and groceries, that would have saved me a lot of money, but I didn't think about that possibility earlier.

Why is that?

Capital One Walmart, Target Redcard, and Amazon Visa.
Who cares about Discover?
One thing potentially better about Discover cashback is that you can use it towards gift cards at up to 20-25% discount.

Quote from kensteele :
for 90% of the people, there are at least a dozen ways to earn 5% back at amazon.
Quote from kensteele :
getting a solid 5% out of walmart, understandable. target and amazon, not so much.
I think a dozen is an exaggeration. That said, the one thing better than 5% at walmart is target gift card deals at target. They neuter their own 5% discount when they're offering 10% off gift cards, but if you use discover for the 5%, you get (almost) 15% (mind you, limited to $300 usually - especially online with one credit card). Amazon's a little iffier, but I did get a few free teddy bears in years past (alongside 5% off gift cards)

Quote from cgigate :
Stop using discover card for year, my BoA card is always gets 5.25% cashback for online shopping
skimming through their terms, that means you likely have a hundred grand sitting in an account earning about nothing? (Maybe there's a trick I'm missing, but it seems like the BoA card is for a very specific audience -- not any yokel who could qualify for a discover card and get 5% out of the box).

That said, I have no idea why this is a "deal" at 2 months away, and the fact that discover will email reminders when it's more relevant anyway.

I mean, yea, it would be nice... But why give people more cash back when they forget to enroll because it saves the credit card company money?

Would be a slight competitive advantage to whoever makes it automatic first

exactly why you don't run these programs. denying cardholders cashback offers doesn't exactly equate to "save...money." only an amateur would pull that rookie move.

i mean, why automatically transfer $25 from someone's $500 savings account balance to cover a $2 checking account overdraft when you can charge them $49 overdraft free instead. what bank(s) would pull such a bonehead move?

A bank like "Costco Bank", if there was one, would build brand and customer loyalty, and gain new customers by treating their customers right.

looks like the only way to buy GC are through app, right? So if I buy Lyft GC using the Discover card, it will be marked as a purchase from Paypal and get 5%?
I don't see Paypal key to be used in store
Does that mean I should add paypal key in google app and use Google Pay in store?
Thanks.

haha, ok. a bank like a "costco" bank is still in teh business to make money and something tells me they would "copy" off the other successful banks before they "lead the way." it took a lot of work to get this done and it wasn't easy but eventually banks had to do this to stay competitive and they didn't do it out of compassion for the customer. automatic transfer has never caused a single customer to switch and has never changed a customer's mind to make them stay. automatic transfer is a total giveaway and the only reason a bank will do it because they don't know any better.

i remember when you made a deposit at a bank and the bank decided what day to credit the deposit. even with a cash deposit, the bank decides. if it's 2pm, they can decide to give you credit tomorrow. if it's $1000, they could decide to give you $50 today and the rest later. if it's friday, they could decide to process your deposit on tuesday. if you deposit at a branch or an atm, maybe next week. it took a lot of [legal] work to fix this and no bank had the balls to get it right until they were forced to either by law or by pressure.

today we still have a lot of b.s. banking going on and there is no "costco" bank coming to the rescue. the only bank that can accomplish this is an aoc-style public-option bank. laugh out loud

I take advantage of this every December Holidays. Wind up with a ton of cash back that I then purchase discounted gift cards and make post-Holiday sale purchases, sweet!

And there we have it. The political troll who hates banks, free market, and capitalism. And for the rest of us who don't equate every money making venture with pure evil, there's slickdeals, where we can learn how to maximize our savings in the midst of what's left of capitalism while we have it.
