For anyone curious, this will significantly crop almost of your photos. We learned the hard way with another 16:9 photo frame. Most smartphones photos are 4:3, while most camera are 3:2 or 4:3.

It's not terrible, but we won't buy another 16:9 photo frame because of it. You can workaround via a pan to "scroll" through a photo, but then you can't ever see the whole picture all at once.

Trying to figure out how to hang it on the wall without a dangling cord.

So you'd rather have something that needs to be ripped off the wall to be charged twice a week?
I have figured out a, likely not proprietary, process of plugging a wire into a battery powered device that does not require bringing the device to the power outlet. Works even with longer wires

Was very tempted on this until I found out that this cannot act like it's own smart assistant. This product would be incredible if it combined the picture frame function with a smart display assistant device all in one.

Anyone know if such a product exists?

Edit:
To clarify, I mean with a large screen, meant for always-on and hangs on a wall like a picture as well.

I've wanted one for a long time but I'm going to wait for a sale of the large Meural ii. Mostly because I don't trust Lenovo/Google to maintain service for these long term and there is no backup if they don't. The Meural has an SD card slot which is a deal breaker for me persoanlly.

This or 27 inch meural
Meural is better, especially the bigger one. However, at this price, the Lenovo might be fun to many people. It has a visible sensor which is annoying to me, but I've seen it in person and think they're good overall.

Build a magic mirror without the mirror Smilie will be cheaper than this and can also work as a calendar and so on.

Why don't you just crop the pictures before you load them to the frame. That way you can make sure the picture captures the original feeling you wanted.

Not a perfect solution and requires a little upfront work, but that is a lot better than seeing your family picture with all the heads cut off.

I have the Meural 27" (1st gen), and I regret not buying 2 when the walnut frame went on sale. I'm looking at this Lenovo smart frame and would definitely buy to try if there was some way to local store photos. It's Google photos or nothing, and since Google is not the most reliable keeping services in place long-term, I'm out. Thanks for the post, OP!

By the way, with an id.me discount, this frame is the same price directly through Lenovo.

I have a Meural and manually crop all my photos for it before I put it on the Meural. For 90% of photos, you can manually crop them without losing much.

Google is not reliable compared to what exactly? Your local storage? Your house could burn down in a wildfire, or be swept away in a flood, hurricane, etc. At least Google has redundancies that's not physically located in one place.
