I don't think so. Intel is not very efficient which hurts battery and power consumption.

Intel mobile 11th gen CPU's have good performance and reliability. They lack behind the Ryzen Zen 3 for efficiency but they can no way be called as "not very efficient". The 11th gen Intel's are good improvements over the 10th gen. So if someone is getting a discount on this, it's worth considering.

This is only true in very intensive tasks, in gaming Intel meets AMD's efficiency [youtube.com],or even beats it [capframex.com] andAMD are currently cheating laptop tests by throttling beyond windows power plans when on battery, t... [windowscentral.com]

So the situation is far more complicated than the common notion AMD is more efficient.

My use case is intense excel usage and other office products and web based application for work and occasional YT videos. Is this good enough? The reason I'm leaning towards intel is be I like the ease of portability with thunderbolt. I like touch screen when I'm casually browsing.

I like this too. After looking at it closely, I realized it was not a 360 so it's not going to flip to a tablet. It's just a touch screen.

Plus it's 16:9 1080P which I personally hate. Like the Samsung Galaxy Books, this laptop's lid could house a 16:10 screen but they cheaped out. I really hope manufacturers all follow the Dell XPS example and go 16:10.

Goodbye and good riddance to the 16:9 aspect ratio [theverge.com]

Screen aside, this is a good deal, especially if you can find a coupon to reduce the price a little more. I'm not sure if the $50/$100 off $500 coupons are still being issued.

I see so much discussion of thunderbolt. I've seen it referenced in what seems to be different contexts. Does it come with the machine or is it something to purchase elsewhere? What is it exactly?

I appreciate the guidance.

Before you buy, compare the bezel size to the 13.4 inch Dell XPS 13.

I have a docking unit that is thunderbolt enabled so I connect dual monitors, network cable from the wifi router satellite unit, bunch of USB type A devices like conference speakerphone, headset, hard drives etc. The only thing that goes into my laptop is the thunderbolt enabled USB C cable which allows the laptop to charge and connect all of these devices with a single cable.
So if I want detach from my office setup and use it on my couch thenb I just need to unplug that single cable. It may not be a big deal for some depending on their use case

Here's my typical warning on Silvery keys and legibility which might ruin a very good machine.

Bought this laptop with the $50 off $500 coupon. This weekend is a tax holiday in FL so submitted an email request. Once processed I would have this laptop delivered for $859.98 with Costco extended warranty. Not bad at all!

I have similar one bought from HP directly. Model BA1097.

This is great machine. Mine was 400 nits display. Please check about this

Pros
Best price for the configuration
Envy models have thermals to control fan noise

Cons
Keyboard is worst. Silver color keys are useless at dark. You can't use the keyboard at different angles on your lap. Worst experience I have about this. I'm using an external keyboard

Fan noise :to avoid that most of the time I keep the setting quiet mode. So I don't get that disturbance
