FPS of drinking from water bottle in RL is at least 300, maybe more. So buttery smooth and realistic. I'll have to run some benchmarks.

I am currently writing this from a Excal PC ASUS Rog laptop I got about 3-4 years ago now I guess. G752VS-RB1 or some such. It was unfortunately one of the sad many that got the cheapy Micron memory modules on the 1070gtx card (switched from Samsung) and crashed when gaming at random times due to a voltage issue. Never found a solid fix (there are some Vbios swaps that claim to help) but I use GPU TweakII with a feature enabled and it at least makes it stable.

To be fair, I contacted Excal about 8 months in when I noticed it repeatedly and they did offer to help with ASUS's warranty, but they wanted me to mail the laptop to them, to remove the added ram (was a deal to get 32gb ram) so they could then send it to ASUS, and possibly get me a refurb unit if it couldn't be fixed. It was all too much to deal with so I just kept on trying to fix it for quite a long time. Never did, but at least with Tweak running, it's smooth and it's a great laptop overall otherwise.

I've been considering a 3070 or 3080 laptop upgrade. This seems like a pretty solid deal. This laptop im using still plays almost all of my games on max or close to max settings with very few performance issues.

I ordered the one on Amazon.com 1799 with a 300hz screen and 16 GB, not sure if I should cancel that one and jump to this one for a better screen and 16 GB ram for $200...

I don't know how much the 16 vs. 32 will make a difference for you, but for that and the better screen, I'd probably do it. It all comes down to what ram is in each and how the specs of these laptops utilize the ram. I know for certain laptops having good ram inside makes a world of difference. But while you can always upgrade to 32gb ram later (which will likely already eat up the difference), you can't change the screen. I use mine with my laptop's screen 99.9% of the time, so I guess ask yourself if you are going to be using it as a laptop or hybrid desktop replacement, etc.

I'll never understand why SD mass downvotes bad desktop deals then mass upvotes bad laptop deals.

This is better. Much newer CPU+superior thermals to prevent undervolting = close to identical performance in gaming, and much better performance in CPU intensive tasks despite 3070vs3080 which is really just clock speeds on these "laptop gpu's"
Dell has 256gb ssd so right off the bat you have additional costs.
The real kicker is the subpar 1080p "ips similar" display on Dell to this average at this price point display.
Ryzen is far more efficient but I'd wager Dell has better battery life

Overall I don't recommend either of them at their prices but this is better.

At 1440p, the Alienware outperforms this system every time. It really depends you want better performance? Pick the Alienware provided the price is similar, you want something with better battery life and screen? Asus is your pick.
