You hook it up to woodworking tools like a table saw or mitre saw and it helps clear the saw dust and wood chips.
A sense of self-hatred and shame after it crashes out in 6 to 10 months.

Namely building a Thien baffle/separator and replacing the dust bag with a (somewhat expensive) Wynn filter.

Also the Wynn filters are great but they are expensive. The Donaldson P181038 is a filter made for trucking/industrial equipment and is the same size/efficiency rating as the Wynn merv 15 but only costs $130-140. That's what I've been running on my dust collector and it's been working great. Just had to make a donut to fit the 19" opening on my collector since the rubber seal on the filter is around 14".

If you plan on upgrading it, stop wasting your money and just buy a better one.

I'm jealous of wherever you live. In my area, people ask near full MSRP for used tools. My recent search yielded someone with this exact model asking "$170. Firm." Another guy wanted MSRP for a Grizzly band saw and his justification was I wouldn't have to pay tax or shipping, but he wasn't going to help load it due to his bad back. 😂

Some people have commented on the upgradability of this unit specifically replacing the impeller, or converting to a 2-stage filtration. Both mods are relatively in-expensive (depending on the components you pick) and easy to do. Who doesn't love shop projects?
I own a mix of used and new tools and I am very weary of anything from HF. I've been looking for used 2 HP dust collectors (in the Northeast) and if you can find them it is definitely a seller's market.
Lastly, if you can afford a new JET, Delta, or Grizzly that does all those things you don't need this. However, if you are woodworker who needs dust collection more than your shop vac can provide AND want some flexibility in upgrades options, then seriously consider this $179 option. Mine comes tomorrow and I'm stoked.

I agree with you but…
When comparing to other brands, we have to make sure we're comparing real numbers. Harbor Freight saying their dust collector is 2 HP is almost as big of a lie as any shop vac saying it's 6 hp. Numerous online sources show the amps drawn by the HF DC don't mesh with a 2 HP motor. HF is even comparing their DC to the Shop Fox W1685 which does substantially better in real tests (see link). The Shop Fox cost $250 more right ($425) now on Amazon. If you want performance closer to Shop Fox though, you're looking at spending $100 for the new plus your time value, and you've still got a HF motor.
