Latter. Imagine have a good time at beautiful pools and an upscale restaurants without small children running around. Not saying there shouldn't be nice places for kids, but there should also be nice places for those that don't want to be around them.

Food here isn't great unless you stay at the attached Ocean Point, which are nicer rooms and adds an upscale-ish restaurant (we had EVERY meal there, the menu changes daily). It's adults only.

Ok property (I toured it and passed), but not on the beach. We really like the Atrium Beach Hotel.

We enjoyed our stay in Sint Maarten this spring. Weather was perfect. The island is very small but offers tons of beaches. We stayed at a friend's condo which was a few steps from the beach. FYI, the French side (St. Martin) is mostly nude beach. Lots of great restaurants to try, gold and diamonds are super cheap. French wine is dirt cheap. Meat at the grocery store is hella expensive tho . I highly recommend visiting if you can especially for this price

That's a long way to fly for only 3 nights. It's a nice island, but minimum stay should be a week. Never rent a car there, there is basically 1 main road around the island. Not only do you not know where your going. There is absolutely no parking to be found. Take the local transportation vans for a dollar or two, they go everywhere you need to go. We hopped vans around the entire island for $6. The drivers are super helpful and very friendly. When anyone comes on the van for a ride, all of the local/passengers say hello.
Totally agree. Long flight but worth it if you stay at least a week. We stayed for 10 days and I'm glad we did. We rented a car for $300 for all 10 days

We stayed for week and rented 2 cars since we had a large group. Had no issues making it around the island (French and Dutch sides) and had no issues finding parking. Maybe a little of traffic but I'm from the Northeast so island traffic was a joke.

Other than beach activities what else is there around the Island for visitors?
caribbean islands by nature are beach destinations. so water sports are the most popular (jet skis, boat rides, catamarans, snorkeling, scuba, booze cruise, etc.).

you may find some other nature related activities like hiking or wildlife sanctuaries.

the island has 2 sides. the french side has topless beaches and the dutch side has casinos.

Does the island or hotel has the COVID testing facility prior to departing from there?
There are a few local pharmacy that offers free testing

There isn't a deal here without a deal on flights. There are lots of cheap idyllic places in the world but it's getting deals for travel to and from them that's the challenge. You're talking $4K here for 3 nights for 2 people. A slick deal? Methinks not. If you're going to pay $3K for travel you might as well make the most of it and stay at least 7 days.

How can I do this for one? Can I stay twice as long? Anybody know how it works? My first time!
I stayed here as a solo before. Just search for one traveler on another site, like Expedia, and you can get similar prices. I personally paid just over four hundred for 3 nights for one person in August 2019.

To other people's comments, I'm a cheap ass slickdealer who is cool with the food not being great, but often it wasn't even good. Def the lowest point of the trip...except when I got blown over by the plane and nearly died, but at least that's a story.

For anyone with AA miles, that's the way to go for flights to SXM

Also, for anyone looking for a Solo all inclusive to just chill, I'd recommend the RIU properties in Cancun and/or Playa Del Carmen. Book direct for free shuttle - the price often is cut in half when you change it to just one person.

Stay away from Sonesta. We stayed there in summer 2019 when they just reopened. Some restaurants ran out of food. What a joke!
Not sure this is indicative of Sonesta in general, you went at a very rough time for the entire island. They were decimated by Irma.

We stayed there in 2017 and the staff was great.

What about places for people that don't want to be around narcissists?

I feel like the reasons you give are a solid reason TO rent a car. It's super easy to get around and you won't get lost, you only ever have to find your way back to the main road. Parking can be rough in certain areas but even if you park "far" away it's never that far.

That said, it's always easy to take taxis, so no harm either way. If you're going to go to a beach halfway across the island though, you'll feel more comfortable sitting in your wet clothes in a rental.

If your definition of narcissists is people who don't want to be around children, then having options for both solves it perfectly fine. Nobody without kids is going to actually CHOOSE the family resort, all else being equal.

Some parents struggle to understand that not everyone wants to spend their precious vacation time around other peoples children. Some take vacations like this to get away from their own children.

How do you go about touring properties? Did you book flights and then look at hotels before deciding which one to book? Thanks
