1) confirm with the rep that the sim card you bought has the proper minutes/texts/data
2) confirm with the rep what your existing account has for minutes/texts/data
3) ask the rep to add your new sim card stats to your existing account
4) while still in chat, make sure that everything was added correctly (can take a few minutes to update) ask the rep for the totals so that it's on the transcript
5) get the chat transcript and save it
This way if there's any question at all, you have the transcript to prove what you should have.

My mom just uses her cell phone so little that paying anymore for a plan is just throwing money away for her. (in one year she used 1gb which I'm pretty sure is just iOS doing it's background tasks and about 100 min and 4 texts).
