It is local detection. Have a few of these, using rstp pulls up instantly with tinycam pro. Still need to use app to view and receive AI detection though.

i mean can it tell who is who? i saw the pict of "auto response". not sure how it works. like the camera will speak "sit" if it detects the dog movement like in the picture?

Use a pair of these with HomeKit Secure Video (HKSV) and they overall work well, here's my thoughts for that applications:

Caped at 1080p (HKSV & local recording), there's a cheaper 1080p Eufy cam
One way audio only in Home app, two way in Eufy
Great price, HKSV cameras are ~$100-200
I have some issues with HK face, vehicle, person detection
HKSV allows for 5 cams on 200Gb iCloud+ plan, Unlimited on 2Tb iCloud+ plan -- the recordings of these do not contribute to iCloud storage. This is also rolling out with iOS 15

Do I have to have the Homebase for the cameras to work, or can I just buy the cameras and connect them to the internet to use them?

No home base here with these camera. Local storage via the app works fine and HKSV if you have iCloud works additionally.
