got it for $150 in june 2018 so only $50 over 3 years is ok at best i guess

***ALSO***

battery life has definitely reduced to the point where it doesn't hold a charge and turns off right away if not plugged in, so parking mode is useless

there were multiple occasions it didn't record crucial moments. for example, someone opened the door and stole stuff while we stepped out to get something while the car was running (yes, we should have locked it..)
but that means it should have a continuous recording from when we turned the device on but there were random jumps in between the video clips. empty street -> suddenly 2 guys in front of our car, not recording where they came from even though the camera was on and "recording"

also happened when a truck side swiped the car. perfectly fine video before and just so happens to miss the accident part and continues a little bit later.

i would check through the files randomly sometimes and the videos are definitely not seamless in between the 1/3/5 min clips

it did come in handy several other times when it actually recorded properly, but after writing this all out, it leaves me wondering why i stuck with something that basically has only a 50% success rate...

*edit*
i eventually ended up hardwiring but that's not the main issue

a dashcam should record everything, not skip a few seconds randomly in between clips or random chunks throughout the day

The simple solution here is to spend $20 and use a OBD hardwire kit. No dash cam battery lasts more than a few minutes after shutting off. I have tested many. By using the OBD hardwire kit your camera is in a constant sleep state (parking mode) when the engine is off and will awaken and start recording whenever motion is detected. I use this in 5 vehicles with Vantrue, Aukey and Apeman dashcams.

Very good, tried and (van)true camera. Highly recommended. It doesn't have WiFi, which kind of sucks, but it's still a good camera that you're not going to wonder if the software froze up on it one day and stopped recording *cough*happened on two of my Viofos *cough*

Is this the one to get? Or is it worth waiting for a version with the wifi?

I have this camera and love it. This is a great deal. Best price I recall seeing. I emailed Vantrue and they sent me a suction mount and also the GPS module for free!

many of these cameras detect vibration/impacts and "save" certain events, I'm not sure if that's the case for you but on some of those they store them in a separate folder on the card. It may be worth connecting it to a PC and browsing the folders, might actually have saved those events. Or you may already have been aware and checked and it could have just failed, I've had a different brand that wasn't reliable and replaced it.

nope unfortunately not saved separately as a protected/locked file

even tried reformatting and using different cards and it just seems like random glitches

sometimes it's really smooth and seamless other times it's missing huge chunks

Is this vantrue's actual website? I ask as this is deal directs me to vantrue.us. However, doing a quick Google search for "vantrue" the first result is vantrue.net.

Using mine with Uber/Lyft for 3 years and never had that happen. Probably the #1 recommended camera's for rideshare, where it matters most. 1000's of hours and always full uninterrupted videos, cut into chunks, never missing anything.

EDIT: Sorry, I made the mistake thinking this was the N2 "PRO", which is the unit I have and works perfect. Ignore my comments for this non-pro version, which I never tried.
