No, the performance of 5650U is not close to 5850u at all. Don't make up stuffs without any basis. What you can say is that the performance of 5650u is adequate enough for most of the users, even for some demanding tasks.

In Last year, most of those posts are mine and the $250 price difference was with the barebone configuration like 128GB M.2 SSD, 8GB soldered Ram etc., so that people can upgrade by themselves. Most of those were created by me by taking the configurable options and then maximizing the components which can't be upgraded like the CPU, soldered Memory, Keyboard backlit, IR Camera etc., while keeping rest like the upgradable Ram size, SSD etc. to bare minimum.

  • Display is 400 nits low powered display with 100% sRGB coverage. This has around 1W power consumption which is lower than even some 300 nits display.
  • The 16GB memory is soldered with one empty Ram slot which can accept maximum 32GB memory, totaling 48GB. However, in that case, only 32GB of the 48GB will run in dual channel.
  • Only one M.2 Slot and no extra slot available.

DETAILED CONFIGURATION:
  • Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit
  • 14" 1080p IPS 400 nits low-powered anti-glare display, 72% NTSC
  • Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U 1.9 GHz (8C/16T, 4.4 GHz Boost, 20MB Cache)
  • AMD Vega 8 Graphics @ 2000 MHz
  • 16GB soldered DDR4 3200 MHz Ram + 1 SODIMM Slot (48GB Max)
  • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD
  • Backlit Keyboard
  • IR & 720p HD Webcam with Windows Hello, Privacy Shutter
  • Fingerprint Reader
  • Dolby Audioâ„¢ Speaker System, front facing
  • Realtek RTL8852AE Wi-Fi 6 2x2 + Bluetooth 5.2 + Gigabit Ethernet
  • PORTS:
    • 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A (1 Always On)
    • 2x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (data transfer, Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4a)
    • 1x HDMI 2.0
    • 1x Micro SD Card Reader
    • 1x Ethernet (RJ-45)
    • 1x 3.5mm Audio Combo Jack
    • 1x side docking connector
  • 50 WHr Li-Polymer Battery
  • 3.23 lbs

Are all the Thinkpads soldered RAM? What if the ram fails, youre done?

Anyone know a good place to buy refurbished Thinkpads? Dell has Dellrefurbished which has great deals on Latitudes sometimes 50% off, but Lenovo's refurbished page has terrible prices.

I think the question is, if the soldered RAM fails, will you still be able to boot using the spare SODIMM slot? I would hope that they engineered it that way.

I feel like this is an "ok" deal. the 5600u chip performance is very close to the 5850u it looks like though.

Question: Is there really no thunderbolt port on this?

Yeah, that's the site I referred to, a joke is right. raku10 has up to 50% off coupons at times for Dellrefurbished making a 7490 like $450. Looking for something equivalent from Lenovo.

Way too early to say as there no comprehension review on 5850u out.

I don't see why not.
I haven't heard failed soldered RAM to be a widespread problem. Are you experiencing otherwise?

5850U review is not required separately, it is nothing but a 5800U with Business specific and security features included, like Intel VPro. Same goes for 5650U and 5600U. And if somebody is saying that there is negligible performance difference between 5600U and 5800U then that person is wrong.

Probably 200-250$ overpriced based on last year's model for the same spec with 4750U. I cancelled mine last year due to delays. I had placed order for 850$ But thumbs up to OP for letting us know of the availability.
