Nice system, I've had mine for a month, no issues. FYI, readers might want to keep checking the Dell website after buying it, as the price fluctuates. I got a price adjustment from Dell ($79), as Dell dropped the price to $1061.99 for just one day.

How is the thermal performance?
I know there's been some concern over the possible thermal issue, but I honestly haven't experienced any.
I tried a non-scientific experiment- I set most programs to default to the 3050 graphic card, then I set the Dell Power manager to Ultra performance where "the processor & cooling fan speed is increased for more performance, this may mean higher system surface temperature & more noise".
I then simultaneously played 3 HD movie videos for about 30 minutes. The result, first while the fan could certainly be heard, I didn't find it annoying, no louder than other laptop's I've had. & yes the surface temps did get warm, the upper vent (above the funstion keys) was quite warm, as was the case, but again, I wasn't able to roast marsmellows over it. I didn't take any surface temps, but nothing alarming.
To be fair, my Dell sits on an aluminum adjustable stand, so the back of the case sits sbout 1-2 inches off the desk. So I'm sure the stand acted somewhat as a heatsink, keeping the case temps down somewhat.

Thanks for the detailed reply, appreciate it. I'm eyeing the RTX 3060 model, mainly due to its higher than normal resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio while costing significantly lesser than similarly configured XPS 15.
BoA and Chase have additional 5% off offers running for their credit cards, Amex might have the 10% offer for Dell running too. You can easily end up getting this under $1k if you stack CC+CB+coupon offers which makes it a far better deal

Yeah, my main interest was solid performance, with a good display & decent keyboard. I'm not a poster child for the 16 Plus, but it meets those criteria. It has a full size keyboard, with full size numeric keypad & normal size function keys, so I no longer need a magnifiying glass to see them. Also I was surprised how useful the 16:10 aspect ratio display is. It really makes a difference in the vertical height of the display, seems more square. Also while 300 nits doesn't seem like a great spec, it's more than brighter enough for me for indoor use.

I would also say that the stock fan profiles are more biased to being quiet. My battery/performance slider is set to halfway when I'm running plugged in which is basically always. I run mine on flat surface and in regular use doing work on the web, surfing and streaming, the bottom gets fairly warm. That said, I don't feel it coming through the keyboard. All of this doesn't involve the 3050 according to the little tray monitor for it.
Always used indoors, I use the brightness slider at about halfway.

From what I've seen these laptops are one of the best deals you're going to find for a sort of "all around use" laptop. It's not the best for creating things (the screen isn't quite good enough) and it's not the best for gaming (the video card isn't quite powerful enough, being limited to 60 watts for the RTX 3060 version), but at this price point it seems to have a great balance of size, performance, battery life, and general build quality.

I don't create anything. However, I think this is certainly a capable machine of doing so for most people out there. If you make a living "creating" then obviously you should go find the best tool you can afford for your business.
