I just returned an open box excellent the other day which should've been an OB fair at best (no box, no stands, no remote). Found out it was a display model with over 8000 hours of screen on time (never turned off in almost a year). TV is amazing and this is a good deal, but I couldn't justify an OLED with that much usage. So if you go the open box route, make sure to check the usage hours.
The only thing missing from this TV is HDMI 2.1, but if you want an OLED with excellent picture quality then you're in the right place.
Only wanting a 55" OLED for gaming right now.
No 2.1 is a dealbreaker

Just went to local bb. Online showing an open box item in satisfactory condition for $809. The employees in the tv section said the online system is wrong and pointed towards an A9G for 1700. They said the "other one" would be in horrible condition (how would they know if they didn't have it?).

I then proceeded to buy the OB-satisfactory online for $809 from the same store. Went back to the store 30 mins later and pick it up. Will see how it looks at home
Lol, most likely one of the employees was trying to reserve it for themselves. Good luck, hopefully it's is good condition.

Picked up an open box fair condition one in GA yesterday and it is near perfect. Was definitely a store display (high uptime) with power cord and remote only. I ran it through a few video tests and all checks out. Display is beautiful so at $720 it is definitely a keeper!

Yup. For everyone checking hours. Turn off tv. In remote press display > 5 > volume + > power

Then choose diagnostics in menu if there is no 3 sets of numbers in the bottom left. The numbers mean Tv operation hours, boot times, screen operation hours.

Good advice

Can't trust hours in settings menu because if they reset the tv the counter resets

Service menu is only way to truly tell

Just got one and sadly it's gotta go back. Diagnostic menu shows 7800 hours and it has tons of image retention when just scrolling through colors. funny how SONY burnt in.

Why is this particular model so heavily discounted so often?

its a 2020 model and retailers probably overbought units and MSRP was probably prohibitively high for most of its lifecycle when it was current against LG units. If I had to guess

I think the CX was cheaper + went on sale way more often

Then there's that CX has 2.1 ports and this doesn't, and is still waiting on a VRR firmware update. For gamers thats a deterrent

After a week with this TV, I'm still having a really hard time getting the dark scenes to not look TOO dark (even with brightness turned all the way to max and toying with all of the different picture settings). I also swear there is perceivable input lag when on game mode even though the A8H's input lag is supposedly the exact same as my last TV (which had no perceivable input lag). It's a beautiful TV but these two things are really frustrating me.
Depends on the content, but try the settings in the link below configured for SDR daytime, HDR, and Dolby Vision.

For game mode, you should turn off all the picture processing features i.e. black adjust, contrast enhancer, live color etc. The extra processing can increase input lag.

Thanks, I'll try those configurations. I did turn off all picture processing in game mode though and the slight lag persists. Kind of makes my heart sink a little Mad Actually I just looked it up and my old TV actually had a higher input lag @ 24.3ms vs. the A8H @ 18.7ms, so there's absolutely no reason why I should be experiencing more input lag than I did before. I guess I'll keep messing with things but I've already turned off all of the processing I could so I don't really know what else to do.

Thanks for the pictures. If I did my math correct, that's about 9 hours a day for 3 years.

Interesting thing is, the power cycle count was only 15. So best buy turned it off about once a month or so.

How do you find out the screen time?
