Tips for longer usage:
1. Use PLASTIC/WOOD spatula
2. Remove leftover rice after your meal, add water to cover the bottom. Simply rinse and wipe the pot on the next day.
3. Never leave rice in the pot overnight
From my mother, proud owner of 1 Tiger rice cooker for more than 25 years
the "problem" is that when these Tiger or Zojirushi rice cookers are made in Japan, they frequently last 10, 15, or even 20 years.... if they don't break down, I have no excuse to buy another new one. I know someone who has a Zojirushi rice cooker that she bought way back in 1990 whey they were stationed in Japan. Still works just fine.(had dinner at her house a couple of months ago and it still made rice just fine)

it's not like a car that I can just park in a questionable neighborhood and leave the keys on the front seat
Here's the exact same model for those who prefer to pay double:

My Zojirushi should be more than 10 years old.
But the cook time is kind of long, almost a hour. Anyone know how about this one?

The inner pot can be expensive.
I researched for my parents Tiger rice cooker, which they've had forever, and the price for a replacement inner pot? may as well just get a new rice cooker.

Great Christmas gift idea! Benefits you too because you won't be eating rust rice when you eat dinner there ;]

I am surprised no one has mentioned this. I believe this rice cooker has a lithium battery that lasts about 4-5 year. It is non rechargeable and is not user replaceable. When it goes out, you can use it as a basic cooker. You would have to plug it in and set the time everytime you want to use the timer. When I opened mine brand new, the clock is already operational so however it has been sitting on the shelf, the battery is running.

I have been using a basic Cuisinart rice cooker for years which has worked well but is starting to shut off early. It normally takes about 15 minutes to make 4 cups of rice.

I have used this only once and I was surprised how long it took. I waited for over thirty minutes and it still wasn't done. I didn't use Quick mode because it was short grain rice but I may try quick mode anyways.

It turned out fine but it didn't seem any better than the Cuisinart.

Reading some Q&A from Amazon, the JBV-10CU says Made in Japan on the box, but the cooker inside is from China. The JBV-S10U said to be Made in Japan. Don't know if that matter, but I just bought the JBV-S10U from OP.

I picked up the JBV-10CU in warehouse this week. It says Made in Japan on the Box and On the back of the rice cooker.

Another really important tip to add to extend the life of the pot is to NEVER wash the rice in the pot because believe it or not the rice is abrasive and will scratch the pot.

I bought mine from Costco when it was on sale. I used it daily just for rice. Never kept rice warm overnight. A little more than a year later, I noticed the venting hole on the lid became yellowish. Tried to clean it with a wet cloth, then the plastic around the hole started to break off to tiny pieces. Not sure about the Tiger quality. The inner pot is still scratch-free. But I no longer use it. Just be aware.

Came here to say this, I only learned this recently and I have been using rice cookers for over 2 decades.

How good do these work for Basmati rice? Most of the reviews I saw were for short grain rice.
We use our Japan-made ZojIrushI for basmati rice much more often than Japanese rice. Going strong making rice almost every other day for the last 6 years.

Ours makes perfect basmati rice every single time (use 2.4x - 2.6x water to rice ratio, more water for softer rice). If this Tiger is similar, you should be good.
