For hard floors - there isn't really a need for a beater bar to get all tangled up.

Vacuum port...just sucks up the dirt (and hair). Not as good for carpet. But quiet and works great on hard floors.
Many standup vacuums have a switch for hardwoood floors that stops the beater bar.
