Please enlighten me.
Why do people still use quicken?
Doesn't mint and marcus insight provide same rather better services for free ?

Honest question... How does mint make their money? Are they like facebook and just hoover up your personal and financial information and sell to advertisers? Free normally means they collect your data and sell it. I don't know that quicken doesn't do the same thing, but at least they have a mechanism to pay their workers without using my private information. I have been using quicken since the DOS days, normally I would upgrade every 3 years, so the subscription does not really make me happy, but I use it to hold my CC, banks, investment houses, MSA and for the most case it just works and I have complete control of my data, and where I back it up.

15+ bank live data sync - yes.
Income vs expense reports - yes
category based expenses yes - auto categorization and budget reporting by
category by not just bank but all credit cards.

Plus it's a phone app so it stays in pocket.
all it takes is face unlock to check any report.

User allowed Customization is minimum but
it's free so doesn't hurt trying. And their reports are pretty neat.

Thanks, bought one! I needed to renew. The recent Staples deal was the same price but for new users only. This one doesn't have that language. Hope it works to renew!

EDIT: I see Office Depot also has the "new subscribers only" version as a different SKU (same price). So the one OP linked should work for renewal. Thanks again!

Is there a restriction as to how far out into the future your current expiration date can be such that it won't let you apply a renewal code if it's too far? I have vague recollection of that being mentioned in a prior Quicken sale thread.

There are two different product listings - one says new subscribers only and the other does not. They are both the same price. Can anyone confirm if the one that doesn't say "new subscribers only" works for renewals?

Anyone manage to get a price match for this online from someone that has free shipping? Tried best buy and staples. best buy says its below the amount they are allowed to sell it for and staples said they don't do online price matches anymore, only instore.

One of the reviews said it doesn't and they won't refund your money.

Do they allow you to sync/download financial info from 15+ bank and financial instution? In addition to some built-in and easily customizable reporting on income vs expense by category/accounts etc?

Yeah, I actually have the same genuine question. Is there any inherent value to using Quicken over like just Mint? Better integration into Quickbooks come tax time maybe?

And have 15+ years of data in the quicken that I can easily refer to and compare to.

They run advertisements on the platform.
Suggests credit cards / investments and earn referrals.

I don't think they "sell" my financial data dumps. They can't as far as I know.

yes they definitely categorize me based on my financial information and advertise certain financial products, give recommendations on credit cards etc.

At the end of the day be it turbotax, quicken or mint they are all different applications by same the company- "intuit". Their data policy won't be different across products.
I don't mind few advertisements and referrals on my screen.

Quicken is not owned by Intuit. They were bought out by HIG Capital. Also, mint doesn't allow for a lot of data cleaning. I guess you can export everything to excel and play with the data, but the native reporting features in quicken are unparalleled.
