Recently tried the roborock s5 max, deebot t8 AIVI, and roomba i7+ for almost a month.

Deebot was great. Except that it ran over a cord and got lodged in the wheel to the point where I had to cut it to remove. Questionable design on that model.

S5 max was awesome. Many cool features.. Except that it got stuck and needed to be saved a little too often. I also didn't have a great experience with the previous one I had (roborock s50) that lasted about a year.

If your biggest concern is longevity, I highly recommend the Roomba i7+. It seems like a tank. The navigation is not as efficient as the competitors. Not as many features. Have to buy the reusable bags for the empty bin (at least it has an auto empty bin). It hits walls and obstacles a little harder than other robovacs. But it's so solid at going over different floors, sweeping over cords, toys, etc. and not getting stuck (best brush design). It has only got stuck once when it pushed our bathroom door closed. I had a hose in my house the other day to clear out our AC condensation line, and it was able to go over it!

Returned the deebot first, then the roborock, and stuck with the i7+. I hate how unreliable these robovacs are, but the i7+ gives me a little more solace.
That's odd this is my favorite model. I've had Roombas for years. I prefer this over my top of the line S model.
Great Deal! I paid $50 more for the same item 6 weeks ago. This arrived looking brand new, clean, easy to set up and use. Very happy with the product. They also have the self emptying one for $549.99 right now. https://www.ebay.com/itm/38428838...Sw4ylg-FUu

My biggest regret is getting this thing. Worst robot vacuum (company). They're riding exclusively on their name and not the quality or the features. Thing is a box of rocks, slams into everything, dies in the middle of rooms, etc. I'll be replacing it with the roborock s7 or maxv version when it drops this year. iRobot support has been atrocious, shipping broken firmware for months at a time.

I have the i8+ (essentially the i7 that self-empties) and got it for $600 at Costco a while back. Worth every damn penny. The thing is amazing. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats and don't have to sweep the floor anymore. It's great.

I've always been curious - do these things work on regular carpets/rugs or are they mostly for hard floors?

Yes, and with its patented double brush design Roomba has an edge on carpets. As others have said it's navigation is slightly worse and it bumps into things harder. The roborock S7 appears to be it's best competition. The shark is a good value if it turns out the newest addition has truly fixed the bugs.

I agree. I stuck with iRobot because of the customer service and parts availability into the future. I've had minor parts replaced under warranty before (going on ten years with Roombas) and it's been no hassle.

I do not recommend Roombas. I bought an i7+ and promptly returned it. For the price range, you can definitely get a better robot cleaner with more advanced mapping and navigation features.

This thing has no object sensors except for a large bumper, so it will ram into things at full speed - marking furniture and wall baseboards.

I have the Deebot T8 Naivi, and its by no means perfect - but its way more up to date.
