Sprouts in Phoenix AZ has become extremely costly and not worth a trip any more, I used to go there for plant based alternatives... the same stuff is available in Frys, Walmart for like 10% cheaper... not worth it..

To me, the one think that overwhelmingly shines at Sprouts is their baked goods.

Double-crust Cherry pie? Delicious!

Blueberry muffins, loaded with blueberries and moist beyond compare? Yes!

Baguettes that make for a super authentic shrimp po-boy or philly cheesesteak? Absolutely!

They put grocer bakery items at Kroger, Aldi and Walmart to shame.

I will make a stop there just for such items. Other things - regular sandwich bread, deli meats, breakfast foods are all painfully expensive and I won't partake of those.

In CA deals are still available. Dollar a pound for chicken with bone. 88 cents for zucchini. Dollar for broccoli. 8/lb for frozen ahi.

$3? Damn, that's a steal. It's $4.14 in the Seattle area.

Sprouts's prices started sucking well before the pandemic, back in June 2019 when Jack Sinclair took over as CEO and basically said he only cared about sales, not comping loyal customers or offering deals I never thought I'd see the day when Whole Foods was routinely cheaper than Sprouts, but that's been the case for 2 years now.

Also, if you think Austin is overrun with Californians, try Salt Lake City, where I live .Over $4/gal for gas and home prices have increased more than $100K/40% in less than a year and in my neighborhood, have almost tripled in the last decade.

Their deli is absolutely delicious as well. I visit them weekly for their $4.99 handmade sandwiches for which I relish every morsel.

I've gone into sprouts markets and thought: "Who's the sucker buying most of the goods sold here?". Sure, the weekly veggies/fruits in their ads can be priced well, but 90% of the store you pay a premium on. Also who's the weirdo who gets the nuts, candies, etc in those loose plastic bags? πŸ˜‚

Nice deal, but it appears the company is looking to goose sales in hope of an acquisition. They just had a round of layoffs, which also seemed targeted towards the same end goal.

Same experience for me here in CA. As an example I got prime rib (choice really, but it was great) from them in the middle of the Christmas pandemic for around $7 a pound. I wish they were closer.

Gas is almost $5 in California, $3 is a bargain.
