This is a great price for a great product. And if you want, you can drill holes and run the speaker wire through the pillars. Most people use sand for added weight. I would recommend using small fender washers because they have more mass relative to their size and will keep the weight lower in the stand.
You could use something like Blu-Tack or Quakehold re-useable adhesive putty.

Washers seem to be pretty expensive compared to the alternative options.

Boxes of washers are very cheap at your local big box hardware store. It is worth a few extra bucks for the better performance and not having to deal with a mess. Anything small and steel will work. If you want to do it for less try going to an estate sale and buy all of the mason jars full of old screws for $1. If you don't have pets or kids, you probably don't need this extra weight.

It holds pretty well against light bumps etc, but anything hard enough to knock the stand over will obviously do damage
