Great, bright 3:2 ratio screen. Compatible with a USI pen, not included.
June 2028 auto update expiration, as of now at least.
This part is somewhat true, but if you're buying with playing any games in mind, just buy a Windows machine. If you don't know better, that's on you. It's like buying a Miata when you need a lot of towing capacity. You simply have the wrong tool for the job.
N.B.: if she still has the Chromebook and wants to play The Sims, you can look into putting a Linux version on the computer. It'll likely be very limited (gaming will be on any cheap device, Chromebook/Windows machine/otherwise), but at least some versions of The Sims are Linux compatible.
This is false, at least in the way you're making the comparison. Windows machines aren't officially supported any longer than Chromebooks. If you don't believe me, try to install Windows 10 (or better, a Windows 11 beta build) on a 10-year old PC. You may be able to do it, but things will definitely break.
Having another 4 years of support (looks like it's actually 7 years) is actually quite a long time in the tech world. And if you do want longer-term hardware support, Neverware Cloudready [neverware.com] is free, easy to install, and will be much, much, much, much more performant on old hardware than Windows ever will be.
Again, this is just flat out wrong. There's a lot of work in ensuring hardware and software compatibility. That Google isn't doing that work to ensure you can put a competing product on the hardware is far different than Google purposefully locking you out of it. In fact, the opposite is largely true when it comes to Linux on Chromebooks. Google officially supports methods of turning your Chromebook into a full-powered Linux computer.

For 400, I'm not doing much more gaming than cloud gaming even on a windows machine, and I'm not sure there's much more out there I need to do that's not on the web/browser-based.
Good deal. Very nice machine minus the trash speakers. Build and battery life were "fine" for me. Got about 6 hours SOT with three same deal that I returned in the past. ~Downgraded to a cheaper Pixelbook Go for cheaper and better build/battery. Still, I miss the speed, screen, and keyboard of this.

Will never buy a chromebook again. They go out of their way to make sure you can't load windows or any other OS on it.

I expect most laptops after 7 more years are probably going to be e-waste, or at least their batteries, but I get your point. I think there are ways to get different OSs on there but not as easy as a generic PC, true.

Tiger-Lake power processors to blast through the web. All have octanes better than 50,000+ at a price of course. But time is money and if you work on the web this will save you lots of it.
