The retail price of this thing is absolute insanity, but $178 seems like a reasonable deal. I picked it up for $149 via this deal, and at that price point, I'm very happy with the product. Does exactly what it's meant to...feels like a real keyboard, the trackpad works well, and the backlighting is nice as well.

I will wait 100$
Then be prepared to wait for a long time. Unless you go used, I don't anticipate a $100 deal for quite a while.

does it make the ipad heavy. i still doubt i need one

Well, nobody needs one. But I think it improves the overall functionality of the device. It's heavier, yes (as compared to the Smart Keyboard). But imo, not too heavy. I haven't handled the 12.9" version and it's possible I might find that combo to be overly heavy - but for the 11", I think the combined weight is reasonable.
Ultimately it's a trade-off, like anything else: go naked for the lightest experience, or add some weight and use the Smart Keyboard if you want to type...but if you want all the bells and whistles, the Magic Keyboard is the best option - at the cost of several additional ounces.

Not by much, and it feels solid.
I don't always use the magic keyboard, but sometimes it makes life easier. For instance if I'm doing something in sheets, I'll just snap the iPad into place and it's like I'm on my MacBook Pro (just more cramped). Mouse pad feels great as well.
Attaching and detaching from the magic keyboard is seamless. That's a huge plus for me.
The one thing that drives me crazy is that there is no place to store the pen. I had to buy a separate pen holder.
Your batter will take a lil hit.
I paid $150 for mine, really a no brainer for me at that price. It added so much to the versatility of my ipad pro. Its more of a convenience thing than a need thing because I have a MBP, but do I always want use my MBP? Nah, especially on the road.
