I guess this isn't a bad deal for someone that has a sTR4/X399 motherboard lying around and a burnt chip. But, the motherboards are way too expensive and the TR v1 wasn't great to start with.

The 3700x that was just on sale for $199 and motherboards are dime a dozen.

Slickdeal from 2019 when this chip was $150. Good discussion for those interested.

take a look at the X399 board price. i got my 1950x setup around 4 years ago and even at that time the board cost 400 dollar.
additionally, you will have a hard time running 3200 speed if you populate all 8 slots. i am running B-die and even then i can only manage 2933 speed reliably (i could run 3200 with 4 sticks).

while you do get 60 lane of PCI-E, do you really need it? and AM4 has PCI-E 4.0.
bottom line, i don't see any reason why anyone would buy a 4 years old processor.
Good deal if you need 60 PCIe lanes.

Yea but the 11400f being only 175 is way better then a 3700x. AMD low end just isnt doing so great. That 3700x was only at microcenter too I believe. Of course if you NEED the extra 2 cores then yes, but for 99% of applications the 11400f is a better buy

Very valid points that I should have mentioned. It was more around if you wanted to support AMD and wanted a cheap offering. Granted, $200 is still not cheap... but I already picked up a motherboard (B550)... so factoring that into the price the 3700x fit the bill.

If someone is buying everything from scratch the 11440 is without a doubt the way to go. Also, the 11440 has better single core performance for gaming.

The motherboards for these tend to die prematurely so I don't forsee this as a good idea
