I guess this isn't a bad deal for someone that has a sTR4/X399 motherboard lying around and a burnt chip. But, the motherboards are way too expensive and the TR v1 wasn't great to start with.
The 3700x that was just on sale for $199 and motherboards are dime a dozen.
you guys are crazy to upvote this deal
take a look at the X399 board price. i got my 1950x setup around 4 years ago and even at that time the board cost 400 dollar.
additionally, you will have a hard time running 3200 speed if you populate all 8 slots. i am running B-die and even then i can only manage 2933 speed reliably (i could run 3200 with 4 sticks).
while you do get 60 lane of PCI-E, do you really need it? and AM4 has PCI-E 4.0.
bottom line, i don't see any reason why anyone would buy a 4 years old processor.
Good deal if you need 60 PCIe lanes.

This should be free with a X399 MB. Horrible deal. You people are upvoting a Ryzen 1800X essentially.
Yes you can get the 32 core for this socket, but its super gimped and has horrible memory latency problems. That leaves only a 2950X as a upgrade path. A 16 core ryzen gen 2? No thanks, a 5800X (8 core) will crush it. Cheaper and faster.
TDP is not actual power consumption. This shares the same TDP as a 1950x and 2950x. It isn't going to pull as many watts as those two at full loads.
Great CPU but as others said, it's past it's time. I bought into TR before 3rd Gen when there were still rumors going both ways whether they would stay with X399 or move to a new platform. I wouldn't recommend it now outside of a few special cases.
A great price if you're building a stand-alone TR4 storage server with multiple HBA or RAID cards.
no it isn't. it would be stupid to use this CPU for that. the connection between the 2 dies on the first gen TR is really slow and it hammers the transfer speeds when you are moving things from HBAs attached to one core and to an HBA attached to the other.
i tried doing this exact thing with a 1920x, and it did not turn out well at all. performed like hot garbage. i ended up getting a used monolithic Xeon CPU on fleabay and that worked out much better.
The chips were very cool, but like others have said, the boards make this a dead end for sure. You can get TR4 or X570 boards cheaper and the Ryzen 5000 chips are just better for less money.
If you only need to play game, this would not be a good deal. But if you need multiple GPUs working on heavy-load jobs, this is a good one. Normal cpu and mobo give you some 18- 24 PCIe lanes, just enough for one 16x cards plus few pci-e ssd or add-on. This threadripper provides 64 lanes which means you can really use 4 way SLI or crossfire.

Slickdeal from 2019 when this chip was $150. Good discussion for those interested.

If you can snag a Mobo on ebay for $150 and get this only if you really need the PCI-E lanes.
Otherwise, you can find a cheaper and better cpu/mobo combo.
