This is not how it works... You have half gig speed meaning 0.5 gigaBITs per second. This is read/write at 1 gigaBYTE per second.

There are 8 bits in 1 byte. So if you want to compare the speed, it would actually be ~16x slower to download vs transfer from this drive into internal PS5/XSX console.
dang they added another $20 discount while it's supposed to be on discount this month? i've never seen that at costco. Can anyone confirm? I also just purchased one at costco this week. Gonna go see if I can return or get price matched.
I'm going to be using it for both the PS5 and XSX. You can store PS4 and PS5, XB1 and XSX games on it, but you can't play the next-gen games from these. You just have to move them back to the internals.

whats a good cloud storage to hold TB at least of storage and at what cost?
I've used IDrive [idrive.com] for many years. $8 for the first year for 5TB, then $80/year after that for personal accounts. They also have 50% off education pricing [idrive.com] (if you have a .edu email address).

One benefit of IDrive is that it supports multiple devices on one account. So you don't need to pay for additional licenses for each computer/tablet/phone. (They'd all share the 5tb of cloud storage.)

The in-store package, at my store, didn't include the $50 aluminum carbiner, so maybe not that great of a deal.
I bought two of these 1TB SSD drives so I could get two(2) carabiner clips. I plan on using the carabiner clips for rock climbing this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes!

Actually I'm going to use the carabiners to clip BOTH my SSDs to my pants belt like Slide Rules . One SSD on swinging on each side as I walk down the hall. Yeah, that would be cool.

To be honest, the damn clips are useless IMHO. laugh out loud

Loving the SSD speed for backing up my stuff via a USB-C.

Adding to this you could also look into Backblaze B2. it's more an enterprise / long term solution which I use as a cloud backup method in my 4-3-2 backup strategy [backblaze.com]. along with a Synology NAS. I don't find it expensive for what it does. (buckets, versioning, etc)

thanks for the cloud tips.

Just got the drive, i primarily use windows, should i format it to NTFS, or use exFat?

i rarely will encounter macs or anything else. We may get a computer with mac OS in the future but if anything only want to make sure it can read the files and copy stuff from it.

Using NTFS allows you to use the TRIM function with Windows. This will help maintain performance over time.

‎Is this SDSSDE61-1T00-AC equivalent to the SanDisk Extreme® Portable SSD V2 product number SDSSDE61-1T00-G25; which, is the variant that most major electronic retailers sell?

Here's our answer from Sandisk.

SM: Hello Leo
SM: I'm just trying to figure out the difference between those two seemingly equal drives, one sold at Costco, the other... everywhere else.
Leo A.: There is no difference between the two. Both are same products.
Leo A.: AC and G25 are product and marketing codes and they are different for different regions.
Leo A.: They denotes where the product was packaged.

I just picked this up from Costco and plugged it into the thunderbolt3 port of my Macbook Pro 13 (circa 2020) and have Time Machine (TM) start to back up to it.

As a test, I disabled Encryption to see how it compares to the advertised speed of 1000MB/s ( roughly ~ 1GB/sec) . TM reported the backup size to be 65.49GB and the approximate time is 5+ hours, or. 13.098 GB / hour or 0.21 GB / sec

What happened? Is my math incorrect? Even if you factor in the slowness and overhead of TM, it is still less thatn 25% of the advertised speed.?

Also, another test performed last night was to turn on TM and have TM format the drive as encrypted backup (blank drive), it ran overnight and never managed to finish encrypting.

I am suspecting that I got a bad unit? Thoughts?

went to my costco today for a in-store price adjustment because I had previously bought in-store, but they say they don't carry this 1TB anymore and could not do adjustment since they don't have it in stock.

im a little bummed but at least I got $20 discount--beats no discount.

tl;dr go to costco everyday or risk discounted products being oos or off the shelf.
