$16.88 is regular Walmart price for 48qt Igloo or Rubbermaid cooler. Thank being said it is much cheaper than anywhere else. As someone mentioned, elsewhere they run around $30. I have never been able to beat Walmart price on these even when buying a full truckload from manufacturer.
Point is, if you don't need it now you can always buy at another time for the same price.
Source- Purchasing manager for export company who has been purchasing over 1000pc /year of these for close to a decade.
Bonus side note - These are the perfect size if you need a cooler as a check in bag with airlines.
igloo quality has gone down the shitter a while ago though. especially their lid hinges are a joke on these
It better be since this cooler is less then the sales tax you'd pay for a yeti cooler.

I have all my (cheap) coolers I bought in my teens, 30+ years ago. Key is to have the right size and right weight for every purpose so you need a variety to do that and this price at 48L is great. Yeti types are generally impractical due to overkill weight and cooling energy (and time) needed to bring them DOWN to temp (who would have thought of putting a cooler name on a bumper sticker???) If insulation is lousy, supplement with low volume foam (or high volume if you are judicious) although I have never done this on lids. Last suggestion, for smaller coolers make sure the lid allows them to turn into end tables for camping chairs for drinks.

U can still get Ozark trail on clearance for like 30 every once and awhile and though still cannot beat a yeti its like 80% as good.

I would never buy this as an activity cooler. I did get one as a meat cooler. Just a place to let smoked meats rest and retain heat. I could see how these would be good as cheap party coolers where ice only has to last a couple of hours

The cooler is hollow between the inner and outer shells so, after some time of storing cold stuff, the outer shell begins to feel cool. I also purchased a Coleman 52qt. That feels solid and has insulating material between the inner and outer shells. Of course it is more expensive than the Igloo but you get what you pay for.

I heard stories of people taking it apart & adding foam insulation to improve the product. 😂

Because these cheaper coolers use plastic outer case and air as the insulator - air is an ok insulator but not great. Obviously the upper end coolers have filled cavities and are fully insulated hence people trying to hack the cheap ones. Some people drill holes all over the lid and also into the upper case. Get a can of spray foam and start filling. You will see it start to come out the other holes especially in the lid pretty quick. Keep filling until you feel its full. I think I saw someone spray cooking spray on the lid and cooler where the holes were to help make cleanup easier. Wait till foam dries and clean up. Silicone holes for extra protection.

Been meaning to try this...seems worthy of a experiment.

Question, and sorry if its dumb:

When you say for check in on an airline, I assume you can put whatever in there, but how do you secure it? You could tape it, but what if TSA wants to search it?

This might be decent cheap cooler for making sous vide box. Any thoughts on that?
This has a 12 gallon capacity which is huge for sous vide. I would think that 24 quarts would be as big as you should go.

I usually put the items in a plastic bag and put in the cooler. Than I put the whole cooler in side a plastic bag and tape it up. TSA has opened the cooler before, left that paper inside and re-taped it up with the bag. No issues.
