I've been craving biltong ever since my trip to South Africa only to find that absolutely nobody sells it here. Is anybody familiar with the spices they use or has a decent recipe I can try?

Aldi carries it. Probably will not stack up with native SA stuff though.

The closest Aldi is about 50 miles away so I figured I would try and make it myself, I'm just trying to figure out which one of these dehydrators would be the best choice since people on the internet seem to disagree about what temp to use.

I have a basic dehydrator and made some stuff before but boy they take a while. Nice to have though of you like to make your own healthy snacks.

I make my own just about every week... this one would get to warm and cook it a little. completely changes the flavor... it is ok for chili bites but that's it. if you want proper then youtube biltong box. you basically need somewhere with light and fan blowing.

How well would these work for beef jerky? I have one of those plastic 5-layer circular dehydrators which only have an on/off. It works, but do these work any better or worse?

The boxes seem pretty simple to make so I may give that a try. Thanks for all the Info!

The banana chips in stores are actually fried. Dehydrated chips are soft, but don't preserve as well.

I've seen it in Walmart in some pretty remote parts of Idaho and the Dakotas. One of my go-to's for stocking my hotel room while on business travel. Generally with the beef jerky and nuts.
