Waiting for a deal on a 16GB model... hopefully the 27" model with M1x/M2 will be announced soon.

Is the M1x gonna be THAT much of an improvement tho?
Also- I wonder if they will commit to yearly updates for the iMac line?

I doubt that average user will be able to tell difference between M1 and M1x chip performance.

hard pass.
$1500 for no upgradability/ ssd replaceability and 8gb ram. $599 for the Mac Mini with the same configuration is acceptable but this is too much money to waste on first gen product. Either get something with M1 for under $1000 or wait for next gen.

Silly question but how is this much different than mounting a Mac mini behind a monitor?

no difference at all, except with mounting behind the screen you can choose your size / manufacturer and quality of you display by your own, at apple you only pay for the name and design laugh out loudlaugh out loudlaugh out loud

these new Mac designs look plain and unstylish unlike the previous iMac generation. RIP apple creativity

If you want the slimmest computer with the best picture possible this iMac is excellent.

The edge it has over the mini is the Retina display.

By the time you pair a Retina display with a Mac mini, you're at the same price as a comparable iMac.

Regarding "is 512 GB enough?" : Remember that USB-C / Thunderbolt is a wicked fast interface and you can expand your storage easily without much speed hit.

And regarding 8GB of ram : Remember that the M1 does more with less RAM. Look at any of the reviews with benchmarks and you'll see.

In general, it's only those who run a lot of multimedia apps that need the 16.

Yes, in my experience, for the typical iMac home user, 500 gigs is enough. Especially if they are cool with iCloud Photo Library (since pics and vids are 90% of what puts people above 500 gigs).
