Thank you for posting this because it is a lower price. However, cricut is a terrible company, they disable machines remotely. Sillhouette is the way to go.

What do you mean they disable machines remotely? I HATE their cloud software, but I've never heard of them bricking machines...

Yes some of the first machines they created, I forgot what they were called, Cricut decided that they all were too old to continue working so they disabled all of them.

Wow, that's crazy. I will say that if someone makes an open-source local Cricut design tool software program, I would buy it in a second. I *hate* the online cloud garbage they're shoving down user's throats, and now the constant "unsupported OS" messages for Win 7, when NOTHING they're doing can't be done on Win 7.

Thanks for explaining what happened. We have a Silhouette too, but for certain things (most, actually) I prefer the Cricut. The Silhouette itself is very cheaply made - looks and feels it. A Cricut with the Silhouette design software would be the BEST of both worlds.

Someone actually did that and Cricut sued the author of the software. So the author ended up having to make the software so it didn't work with Cricut. I have a circut too, but if I could do it all over again, I'd go with Sillhouette, even if it is a lesser machine (I don't know if it is or isn't). I just got dazzled by the marketing at Michaels and impulse bought a cricut without research.

Crazy, I looked it up and there have been a number of software programs that tried. Looks like where they went wrong was copying or backing up the cartridges (when cricuts had them). Got them on a copyright violation.

Someone has to make another run at a cleanly legal version that will work because the cloud software SUCKS and is getting worse by the week.

Check out Sure Cuts a Lot (aka SCAL), I believe they were the first program back in the day and it sounds like they still are able to work with new cricut machines.

I used to use them, along with Make the Cut (no longer updated), but that was years ago.

I did, but it looks like it only outputs files that you have to load into the Cricut crappy cloud software to cut. That and the Brother are like that. All the other machines work directly with it. That Black Cat one looked awesome, but it maybe isn't made anymore?
